Richard E. Peppel, 42, of the Woodsdale Road, RD 2, Salem, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Salem Central Clinic at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday following a heart attack suffered while on the Twin Springs Golf Course near Guilford Lake.
Born in Salem March 2, 1922, the son of the late David S. Peppel and Lela Peppel Knepper, he lived in the area all his life, was employed by the Eljer Co. and was a World Ward II veteran of the Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Murray Peppel; his mother, of Leetonia; five daughters, Mrs. Donna Oldfield of Sebring, Mrs. Linda Carpenter of Alliance, Darlene, Cheryl and Judy of the home; two brothers, Forrest Peppel of Beloit, and Jack Peppel of Salem; two half-sisters, Mrs. Julie Pannell of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Leafey Macry of Leetonia; two half brothers, Larry Knepper of Hanna City Air Force Base, Ill., and James Knepper of Columbiana, and four grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. William Longsworth, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodsdale Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 pm.

ALLIANCE - Dorothy Lee (Shears) Peppel, 84, formerly of Beloit, died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday at McCrea Manor in Alliance.
She was born on February 4, 1926, in Salem to William and Nora (Lesch) Shears.
She was employed by Lyle Printing and the Farm and Dairy for many years.
She is survived by her two sons, Steven F. of Salem and Daniel E. of Daytona, Florida, and one grand child.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Peppel on February 14, 1994.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home with Chaplain Ross Jackson of Salem Community Hospital officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Beloit. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Died in Salem Hospital
Mrs. Nora Belle Shears, 67, Canfield-Salem Road, died Tuesday night in Salem City hospital. She had been ill two years following a cerebral hemorrhage.
Born in Green township March 1, 1894, she was a daughter of David and Lucy Baird Lesh (sic). She had lived all her life in the home where she was born.
She was married to William J. Shears in Salem Feb. 8, 1912.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Willard Knauf of Canfield, Mrs. Eldon Weingart and Mrs. Warren Rieser, both of Salem, and Mrs. Forrest Peppel of Damascus; a son, Theodore Shears of Canfield; 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home in Salem, and burial made in Smith's Corners cemetery.

Price-Peppel Vows Heard In Youngstown
Miss Jayne Louise Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Price of Youngstown, became the bride of Jack Arthur Peppel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Knepper of Leetonia, at a double-ring ceremony on July 3 at the Chapel of Friendly Bells, Youngstown.
The bridal couple went to Cook's forest, Pa., for a week's honeymoon, following a reception attended by 150 guests
at Brown’s Hall. A three-tier wedding cake topped with a bride and groom was cut by the bridal couple. The bridegroom is employed as a clerk at the A & P Co. of East Palestine and his bride was employed with G. C. Murphy Co., of Youngstown.
Officiating at the 7:30 p.m. nuptial was Rev. Homer J. Elfred and Mr. Price gave his daughter in marriage. The church was decorated with white roses, glads and baby mums and lighted candles. Ralph Meranto was soloist and David Jamison, organist.
The bride’s gown was of white chantilly lace over satin with a V neck and stand up collar and long lace sleeves and a fingertip veil and carried a white bouquet of glads, roses and carnations.
Her attendants, Mrs. John Corbin of Youngstown, matron of honor, was in pale green and the bridesmaids, Mrs. Robert Price and Miss JoAnn Corfee of Youngstown wore orchid colonial gowns of tulle over taffeta. They wore headdresses and carried bouquets of carnations.
George Bollinger, East Palestine, was best man and Don Somers and Paul Woods of East Palestine were ushers.
Mrs. Price, mother of the bride, wore pink lace with white accessories with a white carnation corsage. Mrs. Knepper, mother of the groom, wore pale blue nylon over taffeta, white accessories and a white carnation corsage.
The bride is a Chaney High School graduate of the class of 1954. The bridegroom attended Leetonia High School and is a Korean veteran.
For traveling the bride wore a yellow flowered summer dress with scoop neckline, cap sleeves and full skirt.
The couple will make their home at 235 East Martin St., East Palestine.
Guests were from Conway, Pa., Arborvale, W. Va., Columbiana, Salem, Leetonia and Youngstown.
NOTE: Jayne remarried to Ralph Edward Meyers in 1958, and he adopted Debbie shortly thereafter.
