Joe was born to Helen Josephine (Wesler) and Jacob Monroe Gish the first of 6 children. Joe had 5 sisters, Barbara, Marilyn, Beverly, Virginia, and Patricia.

Joe's dream of having a museum some day was realized in December of 1986, when he and his wife, Charlene, settled in Fredericksburg, TX. Joe had had a log cabin build after purchasing a lot in town in 1980. They then had their home built next to it and settled in to a wonderful life in the hill country.

Joe enjoyed serving community and church. He was an active member of Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance, The Former Texas Rangers Foundation, and Curator of Gish's Old West Museum.



He was buried in July 2011 in Saint Barnabas Episcopal Columbarium, Fredericksburg, Gillespie Co., TX, Findagrave #76254543.
