William “Bill” D. Hyett, 92, died early in the morning at his home on Saturday, September 2, 2017. A memorial service will be held 1pm, Wednesday, September 6th at Iles Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Born in Wright, Iowa, June 26, 1925, William was the son of Frank Hyett and Beulah Danforth Hyett. He attended elementary and high school at Cedar, Iowa and graduated from Business College at American Institute of Business in Des Moines.

Upon high school graduation, William served in the Army in the South Pacific during WWII, participating in campaigns of the Philippine Islands and Okinawa. He also served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was pleased to have participated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the memorials.

William was the retired owner of Wolin and Associates, Inc. Mechanical Contractor in Des Moines and served as the Past President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Iowa.

William was a 50-year member and elder of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Acanthus Masonic Lodge Temple Commanders, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9127, American Legion Post 663, and Korean War Veterans Chapter 323.

William enjoyed traveling and was an avid Chicago Cub and Iowa Hawkeye football fan who was recognized by the University for being a 50 year season ticket holder. Also an avid golfer, Bill played for years as a member of the Des Moines Golf and Country Club. His final game was Friday, September 1st.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife of 50 years, Fern Moran Hyett. Survivors include Cousin Marilyn Andrews of Marshalltown; Aunt Harriet Shea of Florida; an Ohio uncle and cousins; Nieces: Margaret (James) Moran of Sioux City, Barbara Jo (Paul) Spong of Johnston, Cammie (Ed) Ackerman of Colfax; Grandnieces and nephew: Karen (Mark) Stewart of Oelwein, Camden (Lori) Moran of Madrid, Julie Spong of Des Moines, Melinda Spong of Cincinnati, OH; Great Grandnieces and nephews: Cassie, Katelyn and Faith Moran, Josh and Justin Stewart, Camden and Jay Ackerman, Quinn O’Meara, London and Avery Spong. Bill is survived by many longtime friends, especially Katie and Dale Swikert.

He was buried in September 2017 in Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines, Polk Co., IA, Findagrave #182954253.
