Virginia Anne Keilholtz Brown

STEVENSVILLE -- Virginia Anne Keilholtz Brown, 90, or Stevensville, passed away surrounded by family Monday, May 17, 2010.

She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Dayton, Ohio, to Lester and Blanche Keilholtz.

Virginia graduated from the University of Michigan.

She married Wallace Brown in 1944 and began raising their four children in Woodland, Calif.

In 1966, on a leap of faith, she packed up the family and joined her husband in Montana, where he had bought a cattle ranch in the Bitterroot Valley. To augment her country lifestyle, at the age of 60, Virginia taught aerobic dance classes until her last performance on her 80th birthday. In the hears following her husband's death in 1993, she managed the family ranch and now leaves the ultimate gift of open space with a conservation easement preserving their legacy.

She will be remembered by family and friends for her enthusiasm for life, adventurous spirit, her love of music and dance and her conservation efforts.

Surviving family members include her four children, Lindsay (Howard) Drummond of Portland, Ore., Doug Brown of Hailey, Idaho, Susan Brown of Stevensville and Jan (Dave) Miller of Lolo; seven grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Jennifer Kuffel, Jeffrey Drummond, Sarah Drummond Hays, Logan Miller, Elizabeth Brown and Jesse Wroe; and three great-granddaughters, Sophie Smith, Emilio and Mia Hays.

At Virginia's request, a private family service will be held at Sunset Memorial on May 24. The family suggests memorials to Bitterroot Land Trust, P.O. Box 1806, Hamilton, MT 59840.

Condolences may be sent to the family at gardencity@missoulafuneralhomes.com.

She was buried in May 2010 in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Missoula, Missoula Co., MT, Find A Grave Memorial# 174790537.
