Arnold Hey Pittman, 67, died on May 10 in Memphis, Tennessee after a prolonged illness.
Arnold was born on January 30, 1945 and grew up in Milan, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Hey Pittman, and by his father, William Lamar Pittman.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Nichol Pittman, originally of Nashville, whom he married in 1974, his daughter, Joy-Elizabeth Nichol Pittman, and his brother William Lamar Pittman, Jr. of Milan.
Arnold graduated from Milan High School and received his B.A. from Rhodes College (formerly named Southwestern at Memphis) in 1967. During his college years he was team captain of the Rhodes golf team. The team won College Athletic Conferences titles in 1964 and 1967. He was also inducted into Rhodes' Athletic Hall of Fame. While at Rhodes, he was president of Interfraternity Council and president of ATO fraternity. He was tapped for Omicron Delta Kappa, an honor society based on leadership and service.
After graduating from college, he joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Memphis. He was vice-president of marketing at this not-for-profit company until 1980, when he founded Pittman and Associates, an employee benefits firm. Pittman and Associates grew to become one of the region's most successful health insurance claims administrators.
In 1974, he was an original partner in the Half Shell Restaurant, and he has continued as an active investor over the last 38 years. Arnold and his wife have resided in Memphis for over forty years, and have been members of Idlewild Presbyterian Church since 1974.
Arnie had a lifelong love of golf and was an avid sportsman and hunter throughout the West Tennessee region. When his daughter's sport became horse show competition, he traveled constantly with her during her teenage years throughout the South, happily functioning as the attentive groom for her horses. He also was president of the West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association for many years.
He has been a board member of the James Hyter Scholarship Foundation since its inception.
He is predeceased by his grandparents. His paternal grandparents were Cecil Lee Pittman and Minnie Elizabeth Pittman of Cades, TN. His maternal Grandparents were Arnold Fredrick Hey and Ollye Melissa Murphree Hey of Hughes, Arkansas.
He is survived by his nieces, Meghan Federico of New Orleans, Lisa Pittman Cleary of Hendersonville, TN and Amy Nichol Wood of Knoxville, TN, and his nephews, Matthew William Wood III of Chattanooga, TN; Michael Pittman of Cleveland, TN and Michael Federico of New Orleans, LA.

NICHOL, MARGARET NEAL NOLEN - passed away on September 12, 2011. She was born, on May 1, 1925, in Alamo, Crockett County, Tennessee. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was active in her church, various clubs and as a community volunteer in the Concord/Farragut area. During her life, Margaret held many positions in the church, as well as the United Methodist Women. She was president of the UMW three times; served as an officer in the Oak Ridge District of UMW; and served as an officer in the Holston Conference of UMW. Her main interest was in Missions, both home and foreign, and she was a member of the first United Methodist Women's foreign mission trip, which went to Haiti. Margaret was active in the Farragut Parent Teacher Association serving on the board in many capacities and as President of Farragut Parent Teach Association when the elementary, middle and high schools were combined. When the elementary school formed their new PTA, she assisted in the formation of that organization. When the new Farragut High School was built it was necessary to have a new parent organization. She was the founder, along with the president, of the new Parent Teacher Student Association. Margaret Nichol was a past member of Farragut Women's Club; Ossoli Women's Club; Belle Fleur Garden Club; and Knoxville Rose Society. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Ireland, the Orient, Mexico, West Indies and spent considerable time with her daughter, Elsa, and family in Salzburg, Austria. Margaret was a noted genealogist, with her hobby extending over a period of 45 years. In 2009, she published the book; "Campbell Station: Its Place In Time". She made contributions to genealogy websites throughout the eastern United States. She compiled five genealogy lineage books; and compiled a Southern Heritage Cookbook. Before returning to Knoxville last year she spent the last twenty years in Jacksonville, Florida. The family wishes to express it deep appreciation to the staff of Little Creek Sanitarium for their compassionate care in her final days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Pierce and Maude Worrell Nolen, her husband, Harry Hite Nichol, her son James Neal Nichol, and two brothers Jesse Nolen Jr. and Bobby Nolen. Margaret is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, H. Douglas and Debi Nichol of Lenoir City, Tennessee, David W. and Kathy Nichol of Mobile, Alabama; daughter Elsa Jane Nichol of Knoxville, Tennessee and seven grandchildren, Jessica Nichol, Rachael Nichol, Ethan Nichol, Bonny Nichol, Harry Spraiter, Douglas Spraiter and James Spraiter. Margaret is also survived by one brother, Tommy Nolen of Newbern, Tennessee and two sisters; Catherine Young and Dora Lee Davis both of Alamo, Tennessee. James Neal Nichol, 59, passed away on October 9, 2006. A resident of Neptune Beach, Florida, Mr. Nichol was retired from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development where he served as director of community and urban planning. Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on June 15, 1947, Mr. Nichol earned a BA degree in Liberal Arts, as well as a MA in Urban Planning from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and a MA in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He was also a retired captain in the Army Corps of Engineers Reserves. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Hite Nichol. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Neal Nichol of Neptune Beach; daughter Jessical Neal Nichol of Montreal, Canada; brothers Harry Douglas Nichol and wife Debra of Knoxville, Tennessee and David Wendel Nichol and wife Kathy of Daphne, Albama; sister Elsa Nichol Spraiter of Neptune Beach; and six nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Barrow Sweeney, age 82, a well known and long time resident of Maury County passed away Friday morning, March 25, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center following an extended hospital stay.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Sweeney held at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia with Rev. Joe Evans officiating. Private interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
A native of Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Annie May Orr Barrow and the late Robert Church Barrow.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She lived for many years in Church House on West Seventh Street, which was the family home from 1893 to 1979. On her eighteenth birthday she was married to Sam P. Sweeney III, who died on September 11, 1983. She was related to many in the county through Nathaniel Moore and Alexander Orr, early residents.
Mrs. Sweeney enjoyed participating in many community events. She especially relished Polk Home-related pilgrimages, which she attended with her friend Emily Long and her cousins, Loretta Pinkleton and Mary Jane Beasley.
Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her sons: Robert Barrow Sweeney of Columbia and Sam P. (Vicki) Sweeney of Franklin, TN; two granddaughters: Vaughn (Keith) Cockrum of Boonville, IN and Brooke Sweeney of Franklin, TN; three great-grandchildren: Jakob, Cooper and Liam Cockrum; a nephew, Bill (Patti) Coppedge of Northbrook, IL and several cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Girard Anne Tritchler Coppedge and Margaret Orr Barrow.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Truelove, Mike Sharpton, Chris Cook, Wally Beasley, David Perdue, Mark Hines, Keith Baker, Ron Strand, Joe Kilgore, Bill Arnett and Jeff Jacobs.
