Obituary -- Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pennsylvania; Wednesday, 6 SEP 1944, p.10 (Newspapers.com):

MRS. ANNIE WENDELL STILES

Mrs. Annie Wendel Stiles, widow of the late Rev. Dr. Henry Howard Stiles, minister of the Second Presbyterian church for more than 30 years, died at her home, 817 Fifty-eighth street, Eldorado, at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon after an extended illness.

Dr. and Mrs. Stiles established their home in Eldorado following his retirement as pastor of the Second Presbyterian church in 1927. Dr. Stiles preceded her in death on April 17, 1937, and she had continued to reside here, continuing her activity in church and welfare work until ill health compelled their relinquishment.

Mrs. Stiles was born at Murfreesboro, Tenn., April 14, 1863 (sic), the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Wendel. On her coming to Altoona as the wife of Dr. Stiles, she endeared herself to the members of his congregation by her charming and pleasing personality.

She entered upon the activities of the church and also was interested in civic welfare projects, especially those concerning young people. Following Dr. Stiles' retirement she accompanied him on journeys to the southland and was a devout helpmate throughout his pastorale here and in the establishment of their Eldorado home.

Mrs. Stiles was a member of the Second Presbyterian church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eunice Savage, wife of S. Phillips Savage, East Orange, N.J. She is also survived by four sisters, Miss Virginia Wendel and Mrs. Robert L. Hay, booth of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Mrs. Eugene T. Barry, New Orleans and Mrs. Henry L. Hadaway of South Bend, Ind.

Friends will be received at the home after noon today.

She was buried in September 1944 in Fairview Cemetery, Altoona, Blair Co., PA, Findagrave #14109454.
