(via Findagrave.com):
Mr Julian "Searcy" Nichol was born on April 26, 1880 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, and he was the son of Harry Douglas Nichol (1847–1926) and his 1st wife Lizzie Y (Lytle) Nichol (1855–1889).
He attended Wallace University Preparatory School and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in 1902
He served as a consulting engineer in Nashville and other parts of Tennessee as well as in San Francisco, California, Beaumont, Texas and the Philippines. He had been employed by the US government and by the Australian government, and he was married in January 1919 in Australia to Sibyl Gordon Thompson (1893– ). They were later divorced.
A member of Downtown Presbyterian Church and retired and living at 1615 Woodmont Blvd in Nashville, Searcy was 83 years old when he had a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm and died at Mid-State Baptist Hospital on September 14, 1963.
Survivors included sisters Mrs Edwin T Noel and Mrs Elizabeth N Spicer, both in Nashville, Mrs Sam Sweeney of Columbia, Mrs G N Keeling at San Antonio, Texas and Miss Roberta Nichol in Wiersdale, Florida and brother Wendell Nichol of Donelson, Tennessee.
Graveside Services were held on September 16th in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
Much of the above is from his Death Certificate, with Mrs Elizabeth Spicer of Nashville as the informant. Additional info is from his obituary in NASHVILLE BANNER on September 16, 1963.
Searcy Nichol married Sibyl Gordon Thompson, a native of Australia, about 1920, according to the 1930 census. Probably he met her in conjunction with a building project in Australia which was the basis for his 1916 passport application, at which time he was living in the Hotel Somerton in San Francisco. Sibyl's given age varies in census and passenger list documents, such that her birth year was apparently between 1893 and 1900. The Nashville Tennesseean newspaper had numerous articles during the 1940s and early 1950s describing her grand trips to Europe, the Middle East, and Mexico as well as back to Australia. She is not mentioned after the early 1950s, and she is not mentioned in his 1963 obituary. There were no children and I suspect the marriage broke up in the 1950s. DLB 2018.
