Funeral services for Eva Jo Lane, 91, of Levelland are 2 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at First Baptist Church Levelland, with Rev. Don Moreland officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Levelland. She died at home Monday, May 5, 2008, under the care of Hospice of Lubbock.
Jo was born to Frank and Sina Mitchell on April 11, 1917, in Okemah, Okla. She married Albert Wilburn "Sonny" Lane on Nov. 24, 1934. They shared 55 years together until his death in 1989. She devoted her life to her family and will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church Levelland and a longtime member of the Sonshine Choir. She also was a member of the W M U and taught preschool Sunday School for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Alice Williams and Ada Clay; two brothers, Frank Mitchell and Justin Mitchell; and a grandson, Mark Dennis.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Dennis of Levelland, Mary Jo Howell and husband Kenneth of Big Spring, and Suzanne Harrison and husband Perry of Lubbock; two sons, Jack Lane of Seminole and Justin Lane and wife Sharon of Levelland; two sisters, Ruth Moss of Sonora, Calif. and Ruby VanZant of Caldwell, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Mary Jo was a lifelong resident of Big Spring, Texas after marrying her true love, Kenneth Howell on May 5, 1955.
She was a homemaker who loved her family, Jesus, and hot coffee!
Mary Jo enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, cooking, and going to church. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Big Spring.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Howell, her parents, a son, Michael Howell, a sister, Shirley Dennis, and a grandson, Joshua Howell.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Winters, and her husband, Roger; two sons, Gary Howell, and Terry Howell and his wife, Kelley, all of Big Spring; an older brother, Jack Lane, a younger sister, Suzanne Harrison, a younger brother, Justin Lane; five grandchildren, Sydney Winters, Amy Winters, Michael Hope Howell, Samuel Howell, Sheena Howell; one great-granddaughter, Marin Howell, and one adopted granddaughter, Angela Griffin; and several nieces and nephews; and her best friend of 63 years, Gwen Faulkner.
A special thank you to the staff at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care that was given to our loved one.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Park. There will be a viewing from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Kenneth Barton Howell came into this world on January 17, 1935 and left on May 9, 2011 after 76 years of changing the world.

Kenneth was born in Holland, Texas to Morris Barton and Bernice Calhoun Howell. He married Mary Jo Lane on May 5, 1955.
Kenneth worked in the oilfields as a young man and then worked at Cosden Refinery in the boilers for 13 years. He then became the business manager for I.U.O.E, Local 826. He was instrumental in gaining huge strides in worker's compensation, benefits, and working conditions. He owned H.O.S.S. Oilfield Hauling Company and finished out his working years selling cars with his sons at Howell Auto Sales. He also enjoyed playing in golf tournaments with his sons and spending time with his grandchildren, telling stories and spoiling them.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Howell; one daughter, Becky Winters and husband, Roger; two sons, Gary Howell and Kim Howell, and Terry Howell and wife, Kelley; other daughter, Judy Felts; five grandchildren, Sheena Howell, Sydney Winters, Amy Winters, Hope Howell, Sam Howell; a special great granddaughter, Marin Howell; other grandchildren, Christopher Felts, Michael Partlow, and Crystal Smith; numerous other great grandchildren; one brother, Billy Ray Howell and one sister, Joyce Riddle.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; one daughter, Cyndi Smith; grandchildren, Chad Felts, Jeremy Smith and Joshua Howell; his parents, and brothers, Melvin and Ladell.

Ruby Mitchell VanZant, 88, of Caldwell, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at a local care center. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
Ruby was born July 20, 1920, in Okemah, Okla., to Frank and Sina Mitchell. She married her husband Bill VanZant Nov. 27, 1945. They later moved to Idaho in 1949 and homesteaded 80 acres and farmed it until 1978. She worked for the Middleton School District for 32 years. She kept busy following many interests, she was an avid football and basketball fan, and enjoyed working crossword puzzles; she also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and dominoes. As she grew older she was able to keep her independence and enjoyed these activities up until her passing.
She is survived by her son Tim and Margy VanZant of Star, her sister Ruth Moss of CA, grandchildren Paul Orabuena, Dan VanZant, Arielle VanZant and Aisha VanZant. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, three sisters and one brother.
