Biographical sketch -- (Findagrave.com):

Thomas was born in Blue Rock and at an early age bought the Henpeck General Store and became the Post Master. In the late 1920's Thomas decided to add to his businesses a housing project in Zanesville. After purchasing a large block of land on Luck Ave. he began to build houses. He sold most of these homes on land contract. Soon thereafter, the depression hit he was unable to collect the mortgage money from the buyers, thus causing the whole investment to fail. He ended up with nothing but his large home. Within 5 years, his wife Dessie's health failed and soon afterwards it led to his heartbroken death.

MRS. CLAPPER FUNERAL

Funeral rites for Mrs. Elizabeth Mitchell Clapper, 68, well known resident of Blue Rock, who died Friday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Naomi Brewer, Nashport, will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Blue Rock Baptist church. Rev. C. H. Starrett will officiate and interment will be in the Blue Rock Cemetery.

Charles served as a Pvt with the celebrated 109 Infantry Regiment, 55th Heavy Brigade, 28th Infantry Division. Winning battle honors. at Champagne, Champagne-Maine, Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne, Lorraine and Meuse Argonne. Price for their glory was costly as over one hundred per cent of the Regiment was wounded from the time it began at full strength to the day of the Armistice on November 11, 1918. This grim evidence left no doubt in the ranks of the 109th Infantry that they had participated in one of man kinds most terrible wars. I Bob Hill, remember sitting next to him as a little boy on his farmhouse front porch. He had trouble breathing as he was gassed and walked with a limp which came as a result of a wound incurred during WW1.

Mary Dowell

(May 1, 1924 - February 14, 2017)

Mary E. Bishop Dowell, 92, of Nashport, Ohio died Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2017 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville.

Born May 1, 1924 in Pine Grove, West Virginia she was a daughter of the late Isaiah and Naomi (Clapper) Brewer. Mary was retired from United Technologies of Zanesville where she worked on the assembly line for 36 years. She enjoyed doing embroidery, doing puzzles and gardening. She was a very happy person and loved being with her family.

Surviving is one daughter, Donna (Gary) Doyle of Nashport; one son, Ronald (Catherine) Bishop of Nashport; four grandchildren, Sharon (Rodney) Spaulding, Cindy (Bob) Bollinger, Shawn (Sherry) Bishop and Ronnie (Judy) Bishop, Jr.; ten great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy E. Bishop, who died November 2, 1968; her second husband, Arthur T. Dowell, who died August 19, 2004; one son; one daughter; a grandson, Jeff Doyle; one grandchild; one great great grandchild; two brothers, Melvin Brewer and Eugene Brewer and a sister, Mildred Diebold.

Calling hours will be from 11am to 1pm Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday at the funeral home with Mr. Bill Jones officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice or the Cedar Hill Care Center Activity Fund.

A funeral service for Myron E. "Gene" Brewer, 81 of Newark will be held Thursday July 17, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral home with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Brewer died Sunday July 13, 2014 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born December 3, 1932 in Nashport to the late Isaiah and Naomi Brewer. Special thanks to his grandson, Mark Curtis, his caregiver over the last several years.

He retired from Rockwell Manufacturing as a millwright. He was a member of Local # 1037 UAW, Hanover New Home F & AM Masonic Lodge. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

He is survived by his significant other, Shirley Ramsey; children, Michelle Brewer of Newark, Sherry (Steve) Finney of Newark, Connie (Mark) Hughes of Youngstown, Linda Meek of Newark, Mark (Kim) Brewer of Youngstown, Terry (Marilyn) Brewer of Newark, Mike (Esther) Decker of Newark, Steve Decker of Newark; twenty-eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Crawmer) Brewer in August 1995; son Bobby Brewer; several brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be observed Wednesday July 16, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main St.

To provide for his family, he work at Pure Oil Refinery in Heath Ohio, grew and raised bountiful food on the small family farm in Granville . He always lent an active hand with Centenary United Methodist Church, Mason, Shriner, and community.
