Vern Erwin Spencer, 90, Nevada, MO passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at his residence following an illness of several weeks. He was born July 15, 1916 in Ringgold, NB to John Francis Spencer Jr. and Bertha Susan Brown Spencer. He was married November 7, 1945 to Marjorie Jean Baker and she survives of the home.
Mr. Spencer was born in Nebraska and came to this area in 1929. Vern served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the South Pacific. Following the service, Vern worked 17 years for Greenbrier Apartments in Overland Park, KS. He worked the remainder of his life as a general contractor, well versed in all areas of the construction business. Vern was saved and baptized at age 12 and was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Nevada.
In addition to his wife Marjorie, survivors include three children, Vern Eugene Spencer, Nevada, MO, Melba Jo Hogan, Nevada, MO and John James Spencer, Sheldon, MO; six grandchildren, Michael Eugene Spencer, Bronaugh, MO, Diana Lea Miranda, Sheldon, MO, Robert Erwin Spencer, Sheldon, MO, Amanda Jean Portwood, Nevada, MO Ronnie Wayne Spencer, Lawrence, KS and Jennifer Householder, Nevada, MO and 15 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; two sisters, Leona and Vera; one granddaughter, Tammy Sue Spencer and one great-granddaughter, Amy Madison Spencer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with Rev. Melvin Mabra officiating. Interment will follow in Click Cemetery in Nevada.
Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, Friday evening between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.
The family suggests that memorials may be made, in his memory, to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
He was buried in July 2006 in Click Cemetery, Nevada, Vernon Co., MO, Findagrave #15002052.

Marjorie Jean (Baker) Spencer, 91, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at her home in Nevada surrounded by her loved ones.
Marjorie, one of thirteen children, was born July 20, 1925 in Nevada, MO to James Otis and Bertha Rachel (Love) Baker.
On November 7, 1945 she was united in marriage to Vern Erwin Spencer in Nevada and to this union three children were born. Vern preceded her in death on July 18, 2006.
Marjorie grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. She was a member of Nevada Baptist Temple “Bible Baptist” church. Marjorie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making quilts with her twin sister Margaret, embroidering, crocheting, and doing word search.
Survivors include her children, Vern Eugene Spencer, Melba Jo Hogan, and John James Spencer; six grandchildren, Michael Spencer, Diana Spencer, Robert Spencer, Amanda Portwood, Ronnie Gannoway, and Jennifer Householder; several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Vern, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, her daughter-in-law, Donna Spencer, and her twelve siblings, Delores, Nell, Ruby, Alta, James, Helen, Patricia, Margaret, Mildred, Jesse, Bertie, and Jack.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Bro. Jerry Pyle officiating. Interment will follow in Click Cemetery, Nevada.
She was buried in June 2017 in Click Cemetery, Nevada, Vernon Co., MO, Findagrave #180342170.
