Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):
The Obituary of Lee Elijah Simmons – Western News, 1968
"Valley Native Lee Simmons, 84, Rites Were Held On July 20"
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Dowling chapel for friends to join family members in paying their last respects to Lee E. Simmons, 84, valley resident all of his life who died July 18 after a long illness. Rev. Robert Elwell officiated and interment was in the family plot at Corvallis cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Tanner, Alfred Simmons, Lee Lear, Gilbert Chaffin, Milton Howe and William Engler.
Lee Elijah Simmons was born March 29, 1884 at Victor, a son of Gilbert and Nancy Chaffin Simmons. His mother came to the valley in 1864 by covered wagon from Kansas with her family, the Elijah and Margaret Chaffins. His father came to the Bitter Root previous to this via California and the gold rush. Mr. Simmons attended Corvallis schools and, on April 14, 1912, he married Rea Brosius Myers. Rev. W. D. Lear officiated and witnesses were Edythe Simmons and Milford E. Cobb. The couple built a home west of Corvallis and lived there 56 consecutive years before his death.
He was active for many years on early-day baseball teams in the valley when this was the major summer sport in western Montana. He retired from farming about ten years ago when his health became poor.
Surviving beside the widow is a son, Robert, who has a dental laboratory in Missoula; daughters, Mrs. Thoralf J. (Mary Lee) Lee of Spokane, Mrs. Leighton (Loyce) Teller, Corvallis; sister Mrs. Barr of Corvallis; brother Mason Simmons, Hamilton; seven grandchildren.
Lee Simmons loved life and lived it fully. He found joy in communion with nature, knew the ways of the wildlife and the denizens of the stream, liked to listen to the music of hounds as they ran in the night time. He was kind, quiet, wholesome. He is going to be missed by those who knew him.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee and son, Bruce, came from Spokane for the rites as did Mrs. Howard Elliott, Deer Lodge and her son Bill Elliott, Whitefish; the Robert Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hull, John Treece, Missoula; Miss Vicki Teller, Spokane; Amos Chaffin, Ronan.
He was buried in July 1968 in Corvallis Cemetery, Corvallis, Ravalli Co., MT, Findagrave #116519736.
