Virgil N. Dowler, 92, of Mineral Wells, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Jackson County, a son of the late William and Dora Yoho Dowler.
Virgil enjoyed hunting and fishing, and after his retirement from DuPont, spent much of his time farming and gardening. He was a 50-year Mason, past president of the South Parkersburg Lions Club as well as the Mountain State Sportsmen Association. He operated service stations for many years and worked as a boilermaker prior to going to work at DuPont. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Norman Dowler and wife, Linda, of Southaven, Miss., and Bernard Dowler and wife, Ann, of Ripley; two daughters, Linda Donahue and husband, Larry, of Mineral Wells and Charlotte Bumgarner and husband, David, of Parkersburg; three brothers, Wayne, Lester and Milford; one sister, Mamie; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah; and five brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mamie B. Drain, 91, of Parkersburg, passed away on March 23, 2010, at Camden- Clark Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 3, 1919 in Jackson County, a daughter of the late William and Dora Dowler.
She had previously worked at the Viscose, South Park Candy and cared for the elderly. She was a former member of Big Tygart United Methodist Church.
Mamie is survived by a daughter, Beverly Badgett of Belpre; sons, Darrell Drain of Parkersburg, Denzil Drain and Sharon of Belleville, Randall "Skip" Drain and Joan of Lanexa, Va.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Wayne Dowler and Thelma, Frank Dowler and Betty, all of Parkersburg, and Milford Dowler and Barbara of Texas.
In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by Delmer Drain; son, Bernard "Dale" Dowler; granddaughter, Terri Badgett, and grandson, Brian Drain.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Billy Batten officiating. Burial will be at Big Tygart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Big Tygart Cemetery Fund.

Lester Franklin "Frank" Dowler, 84, of Parkersburg, passed away on Nov. 14, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 13, 1930, in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late William and Dora Yoho Dowler.
Frank retired from DuPont with 30 years of service. He was a farmer and loved woodworking and working in his wood shop. He was a member of the Southside Southern Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty M. Caltrider Dowler; three children, Terry L. (Kay) Dowler, Jeanne (Rusty) Phillips, and Tim (Tina) Dowler, all of Parkersburg; one son-in-law, Ed Harris of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; grandchildren, Jody Harris, Becky (Rod) Marks, Lindsey Harris, Josh (Lisa) Wiblin, Stephani (Jason) Cox, Brian (Rebecca) Dowler, Sara (Simon) Schoenlein, Sonny (Shannon) Dye, Francis Merritt, Austin Dowler, and Chris (Rachel) Ferry; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Cameron, and Mallory Marks, Ayden, Jackson, and Sammy Lovell, Matthew and Seth Cox, Lilly and Aubeny Dye, Aubrey Schoenlein, Nathaniel and Nova Ferry; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Lucy.

Joyce L. Harris, 61, of Mineral Wells, went home to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on March 5, 2011, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
She was born in Parkersburg, the daughter of Lester Frank and Betty Maxine Caltrider Dowler.
Joyce had worked for St. Joseph's Hospital as a Surgical Technician for 28 years. Joyce was a dedicated hard worker and an amazing cook. She was the owner of The Windmill Restaurant for 14 years which had locations in Parkersburg, Vienna, DuPont, G.E. and Mid-Ohio Valley Medical Group.
Joyce was an outstanding and loving wife, mother, grandmother and was a special friend to many. The things in life that she enjoyed most were Cameron's athletics, teaching Mallory how to cook and watching Taylor in Color Guard. She enjoyed going to Amish Country and four-wheeling. She was a 4-H leader for over 30 years with Saulsbury 4-H Club and was Outstanding Leader of the Year in 1995 as well as a 4-H All Star. She was President of the Mineral Wells Community Building and cooked at many 4-H camps. She and her husband Ed had hosted Fourth of July picnics for Dove Creek and the Mineral Wells area for the past 27 years. She was a member of Calvary Memorial Church and volunteered in the nursery, taught Sunday school, volunteered in children church and church musicals. She was able to live out her dream in December 2010 which was to take her children and grandchildren to Disney World. Joyce was a giving and generous person in every area of her life with family and friends, her last act of giving was to donate her eyes so that someone else may see. Her faith and strength throughout her sickness never wavered as she continued to be an inspiration to everyone.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her loving husband, Ed Harris of Mineral Wells; her daughters, Jody Harris, Rebecca Marks and husband, Rod, and Lindsey Harris, all of Mineral Wells; her grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Marks, Cameron Harris Marks and Mallory Grace Marks of Mineral Wells; her sister, Jeanne Phillips and husband, Rusty, of Parkersburg; her brothers, Terry Dowler and wife, Kay, and Tim Dowler and wife, Tina, both of Parkersburg; her sister-in-law, Donna Dowler and husband, Floyd, of Parkersburg; brother-in-law, Don Harris and wife, Pam. of Texas; and her dog, "Billie Jo."
She was preceded in death by her father-and mother-in-law, Gay and Maxine Harris; her special sister-in-law, Betty Crites; her paternal grandparents, William and Dora Dowler; her maternal grandparents, Carroll and Ora Caltrider; and her cat, "Tigger."
A celebration of Joyce's life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Memorial Church, Wayside Farm Road off of East Seventh Street, with Pastor Rob Collins and Darren Crites officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Mineral Wells. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at Calvary Memorial Church and Tuesday from noon until service time.

Milford E. Dowler, 76, formerly of Parkersburg, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at St. Johns Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Mineral Wells, Wood County, a son of the late William and Dora Dowler.
After taking early retirement from his career at DuPont, he owned and operated M & D Contractors, a local General Contracting company. Actively involved in community service, he was a member of Fort Neal Kiwanis Club, where he served as a board member. As the 1986 Fort Neal Kiwanis Club President, both he and the club were recognized as a Single Service Honor Club and spearheaded the 1986 Parkersburg Bicentennial Celebration.
He helped with the Parkersburg Safety Town Program for pre-schoolers, the Parkersburg Beautification Project, and Special Olympics. He was a veteran of the Army where he served as Specialist Fifth Class for the Headquarters Company of the 1092nd Engineer Battalion. He also served for 3 years in the Army Reserve. After retiring from construction, Mr. Dowler and his wife relocated to Houston, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara A. Dowler of League City, Texas; his children, John E. Dowler of Hockingport, Ohio, J. Scott Dowler of Parkersburg, Melissa and husband, Jeff Conway, of Dickinson, Texas, and Melody Dowler of League City, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne Dowler and wife, Thelma, of Parkersburg and Frank Dowler and wife, Betty, of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Parkersburg, with Pastor Billy Batten officiating and military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the cemetery.
