John E. Olson age 65 of Maquoketa, Iowa died Thursday morning, December 6, 2001 at the Dewitt Community Hospital in Dewitt, Iowa, after an apparent heart attack.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2001 from the Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa with Pastor Sunnie Hermetet of the East Iron Hill Community Church in rural Maquoketa, Iowa officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 P.M. on Sunday, December 9, 2001, from the Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.
John E. Olson was born on June 19 1936 in Aurora, Illinois to Donald E. Olson and Johnetta P. Francois Olson. He married Shirley Gilmore on June 7, 1958, in Lost Nation, Iowa.
Mr. Olson was educated in the Maquoketa Community Schools. He had worked various jobs in the construction field until taking a position with the City of Maquoketa, working 30 years, 15 of which was serving as Public Works Director until his retirement.
Mr. Olson enjoyed fixing and repairing things. He loved to "tinker". He also enjoyed being outside mowing and doing yard work. His family was very important to him, especially his granddaughter, Katie.
He is survived by: his wife, Shirley Olson, of Maquoketa, IA; 2 daughters, Deb Olson and Dawn (Mrs. Tom) Hare, both of Maquoketa, IA; 1 granddaughter, Katie Davis; 2 brothers, Buddy (Myrna) Olson of Maquoketa, IA and James "Jim" (Bonnie) Olson of Tarpon Springs FL; and his special friend -- his dog, "Bailey". He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Donald E. Olson, and his dog, "Chopper".
He was buried in December 2001 in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Jackson Co., IA, Findagrave #27441990.
