H. Robert “Bob” Hager, 96, of Cedar Falls, IA, and formerly a long time resident of Fort Dodge, IA, embarked on his journey to the Lord Monday, January 14, 2019, after a long and fruitful life. Bob was most recently a resident at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls, IA. Services to celebrate his life will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Rev. John Elkin officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery – Fort Dodge. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Bob was born May 16, 1922, in Fort Dodge, IA, the son of Hugo Fredrick Herman and Hazel M. (Harker) Hager. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1939 as class co-president. In 1942, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946. On April 13, 1947, he was united in marriage to Gladyce Johnson in Fort Dodge. Utilizing his God given technical abilities and enjoyment in working with his hands, he decided to work for NCR (formerly National Cash Register). Bob also had strong ties to Northwest Iowa, and worked as an NCR service manager for 40+ years in both Spencer, IA and Fort Dodge. In his professional life he was known by many for his leadership, knowledge, dedication and attention to detail. In his personal life he was known for his kind manner, honesty and dry wit amongst other traits. He was a member of Kiwanis, YMCA, American Legion the Fort Dodge Racquet Club and the First Christian Church. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing, woodworking, tennis, racquetball, volleyball and utilizing his repair and gardening skills to “putz around”.
Bob is survived by his 3 children: Sally Condon and husband Mike of Rochester, MN, Laurie Packer and husband Greg of Cedar Falls, IA and John Hager of Cedar Rapids, IA; 6 grandchildren: Meghan Hahs and husband Joe of Eagan, MN, Jocelyn O'Reilly and husband Bill of Phoenix, AZ, Mark Condon of Lakeville, MN, Patrick Condon of Minneapolis, MN, Eric Packer of Independence, IA, and Kyle Packer of North Liberty, IA; and 5 great grandchildren: Lilly Hahs, Matt Hahs, Kate O'Reilly, Will O'Reilly and Ellie O'Reilly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife in 1980.
He was buried in January 2019 in Fort Dodge Memorial Park, Ft. Dodge, Webster Co., IA, Findagrave #196136494.
