Gordon L. Merritt, 66, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, in his home with family by his side after an eight month battle with cancer. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery in Walker, with military honors.
Gordon was born on March 30, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Gordon Ray and Marie (Dye) Merritt. In 1961, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a Corporal and in 1966, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. During this time, Gordon served his country in the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1969.
Gordon was an avid Cardinal baseball, Jets and NASCAR fan. He will be greatly missed along with his sense of humor and candor.
Survivors include his children, Mike (Becky) Merritt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Revette (Terry) Sauser of Ryan, Iowa, Gordon (Angela) Merritt of Marion, Iowa, Kristine “Bean” Ferguson of Hiawatha; his only wife, Linda Merritt of Marion, who he remained friends with over the years; his half-brothers, Mike Tudor of Midland, Texas, and John Doxsee of Orlando, Florida; his grandchildren, Alexandra, Bianca, Brooke, Cassie, Corey, Christopher, Kayosha, Hannah, Michael Jr., Nikki, Richard III, T.J. and Zachary; many nieces and nephews; friends; and his two special cats Icebox and Lucky.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Gordon R. Merritt; and brothers, Tony Tudor and Ray and Ronald Merritt.
A memorial fund has been established in his honor.

Ray "Spooky" Dean Merritt was born Jan. 21, 1947 in Independence, the son of Gordon R. and Marie (Dye) Merritt. Ray served in the Marine Corps as a rifleman and radio operator in Vietnam.
Ray enjoyed fishing, Nascar and being with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Dawn Marie of St Louis, brothers Gordon of Hiawatha, Tony of Cedar Rapids and Mike of Beaver Dam, WI, plus many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

“Tony” Bruce Anthony Tudor, 53, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday morning surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Tony was born September 3, 1956, in Manchester, Iowa, to Charles “Bud” Tudor and Marie Dye. He grew up in North St. Louis before moving to Cedar Rapids in his early teen years. He attended Franklin Junior High and Washington High School. He was united in marriage to Claudia Pierce on March 1, 2003. Tony worked for Barron Motor and City Automotive before retiring from CRANDIC Railway after 16 years of service.
Tony was a huge Cardinals Fan and avid NASCAR “Tony Stewart” Fan. He also enjoyed Hawkeye Football. He truly enjoyed the special time he got to spend with his “little buddy”, grandson, Blayden.
Tony always enjoyed singing karaoke, drinking a cold Busch, and grilling for all his family, friends and the “Boys”, friends since Jr. High School.
In recent years, Tony really looked forward to the Wednesday lunch breaks with his best friend of 40 years, Jon Fawcett.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Zenk and staff and Susan with St. Luke’s Hospice for all of their special care.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Tony’s memory.

Funeral services will be held in the Oak Grove Christian church Friday afternoon at two o'clock for Mrs. John Wilt , 88 who died yesterday at the home of her nephew and wife Mr. and Mrs. Robert Daugherty near Vinton, after a week's illness. She was a lifelong resident of Benton township near Shellsburg.
Rev. E. L. Shaffer will conduct the services. Burial will be in Shellsburg Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs Wilt was visiting at the Daugherty home and was stricken ill while there. Her condition became critical Sunday.
She was born as Ida Freeman on March 2, 1863, near Shellsburg a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Freeman. She married John Wilt on Jan 5, 1882 near Shellsburg. He died 15 years ago.
Surviving are daughter. Mrs. Maude E Cue of Shellsburg three sons, Carl and Glenn of Shellsburg and Earl of La Porte City, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate family. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
She was a lifelong member of the Oak Grove church and was the first organist there.
The body is at the Fry-Holland funeral home where friends may call until Friday morning at 9:30 when it will be removed to the Oak Grove Church.

She was born Aug. 21, 1883, at Shellsburg, where she resided until moving to the care center two years ago.
She was married to J.C. "Cliff" Moubry in April of 1904 near Shellsburg. She was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church, rural Shellsburg.
Surviving are three sons, James of Palo, Arnold of rural Vinton, and Elzo of Genesco, N.Y.; a daughter, Marie Cue, Shellsburg; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oak Grove Christian Church, rural Shellsburg. Burial: Palo Cemetery. Visitation after 3 p.m. Sunday at Campbell-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton.

To Celebrate Golden Wedding
SHELLSBURG -- Celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary Tuesday will be Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Moubry, who will have an family dinner at their home at noon and an open house from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Moubry is the son of the late Steve Moubrys and his wife is the former Dora Johnson, daughter of the R. E. Johnsons, all of Shellsburg.
They are the parents of five children, Mrs. Leland Cantonwine and Arnold Moubry of Vinton, James Moubry of Palo, Faye Moubry of Novelty, Mo., and Elzo Moubry, who is stationed in Ramsey air base in Puerto Rico. There are 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Breakin Discovered at Moubry Farmhouse
Linn county deputy sheriffs Sunday investigated a breakin at the Dora Moubry farmhouse, six miles north of Palo.
First Deputy George Griffin said that an undetermined amount of articles was taken.
Entrance was gained by removal of a rear porch window and by breaking open a rear door.
Griffin said the breakin occurred sometime within the last two weeks. It was discovered Sunday by Mrs. Moubry's son, James A. Moubry. Mrs. Moubry is currently in a nursing home.

Mrs. Grover D. Harger, 54, of 531 Wilson avenue SW, resident of Cedar Rapids eight years, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 10 p.m. Sunday after a long illness. She was born near Shellsburg Dec. 15, 1893.
Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, Orland of St. Paul, Harold of Evansville, Ind., and Verl of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Annabell Weaver of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Harry and George Johnson of Shellsburg, Earl of Central City, John of Brandon and Harley of Fort Dodge, and a sister, Mrs. Dora Moubry of Shellsburg.
She was a member of Second Christian church in Cedar Rapids.
Services will be conducted in the Beatty chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Warren Johnson of Minneapolis. Burial will be in the Linwood cemetery, Friends may call at the chapel.
