Cephas P. Forsythe, of East Wheeling Ave., died early Tuesday morning after a lingering illness of stomach, liver and kidney diseases. He had been ill for about three years.

He was born May 8th, 1837, in Wills township. He was a son of the late Robert and Sarah Forsythe who came to Guernsey County in early days from Pennsylvania.

The deceased was united in marriage August 16th, 1864, with Sarah Clippinger, who with a family of grown sons and daughter survive: Howard J., Mrs. Palmer McConnell, who died a number of years ago, Homer A., who resides on the old home farm in Center township, Mary E., wife of Clark Morrison, of Cambridge township, Nora May, who died when two years of age, William R., of Cambridge, and Miss Laura B. of the home.

Mr. Forsythe resided for many years in Center township. In 1891 he opened the Forsythe coal mines and has been very successful as a coal operator. The Forsythe mine is recognized as one of the most valuable in the Cambridge field.

About two years ago Mr. Forsythe moved to Cambridge having purchased the M.D. Robins property for a residence. He had been a member of the U.P. Church since his youth, and for over thirty years was an elder in that church. At the time of his death he was a member of the 2d U.P. Church.

His brothers and sisters that are living are: Mrs. Moore, of Perry County; Thomas and Hazel Forsythe, of Kimbolton. Those deceased are: John Forsythe, New Concord; James Forsythe, Bloomfield: and Rachel McCormick of New Concord.

The funeral will take place from the residence Thursday at 10 a.m. services conducted by his pastor Rev. G.O. Miller, assisted by other clergyman of the city. The deceased had a large number of relatives and friends who are deeply grieved because of his death.
