John M. Thompson, age 89, of Canton, died Friday in his residence after an extended illness. Born in Old Washington, OH to the late John McCrory and Gertrude (Paden)Thompson, M.D. Mr. Thompson was a 1941 graduate of Geneva College Beaver Falls, PA. He was retired from the Sherwin Williams Company in Cleveland, OH after 30 years of service. A member of Faith Community Church, he was known for his infectious laugh, love for his family, gardening, outdoors, sports and was proud to have been the general contractor for two of his homes.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister Dorothy and a brother Charles.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years Carolyn of the residence. Daughter: Linda Gillman of Canton and a son John B. (Patricia) Thompson of Coral Gables, FL. Two grandsons: Kevin Gillman and John Thompson.

A memorial service will be Friday 11:00 A.M. in Faith Community Church with Rev. Mr. Elden Smith officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Faith Community Church 4301 Cleveland Ave., N.W. Canton, OH 44709.
