Cora G. Russo, 84, of Lincoln died Thursday (Jan. 15, 2004) at 4:13 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Monsignor Edward Higgins officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Middletown.

Mrs. Russo was a registered nurse and retired from Temple Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.

She was born Sept. 28, 1919, at New Holland to Glen E. and Leola Crawford Ewers. She married Anthony F. Russo on Oct. 23, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pa. He died April 5, 1988.

She is survived by one sister, Virginia Mae (and Harold) Schmidt of Lincoln; a godchild, Carol Schipiani of Philadelphia, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a member of Holy Family Church of Lincoln, the Nurses Alumni Association of BroMenn in Bloomington and the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, for which she was a historian.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Village or to the donor's choice.

John W. Ewers

MASON CITY -- John W. Ewers, 57, of Mason City, a retired foreman and cabinetmaker, died at 4 a.m. yesterday (May 14, 1987) at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, after a long illness.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, Mason City, the Rev. Carl E. Cross officiating. Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Maas Funeral Home, Mason City.

Mr. Ewers was born July 14, 1929, at New Holland, a son of Glen E. and Leola M. Crawford Ewers. He married Mary Joy Renken on July 23, 1950. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, John, Decatur; one daughter, Susan LeGreco, Galena; two sisters, Cora Russo, Philadelphia, Pa., and Virginia Schmidt, Chestnut; and five grandchildren.

PEKIN - Henry Kleen, 95, of Pekin, formerly of Delavan, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Timbercreek Rehab & Health Center in Pekin.

He was born Dec. 21, 1918, in San Jose to George and Tena Goeken Kleen. He married Evelyn Ewers on Aug. 4, 1948. She preceded him in death in April 1975.

Surviving are three children, Betty of Thibodaux, La., Karen of Peoria and Dennis of Peoria; great-niece, Patricia Parkhurst Dennis; great-great-nephew, Jason Wysocki; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nephews by marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Goldie Brinkman; a daughter, Viola Beaver; and niece Barbara Parkhurst.

He was employed at Corn Products in Pekin for over 40 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Pekin, and of the American Legion Post 382 of Delavan, where he enjoyed many years of cooking on Sunday breakfast teams and participating in holiday flag displays.

He was an avid gardener, growing vegetables until the age of 93.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the European theater.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and, in recent years, riding a 3-wheel bicycle all around Pekin. He also loved to dance in his later years.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Davis Mortuary in Delavan. Pastor Gary Ford of Grace United Methodist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, also at Davis Mortuary.

Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
