John H. Hammitt

John Henry Hammitt, 62, died at the Holston Valley Community Hospital, Sunday, of injuries received when he fell from a barn loft last Tuesday. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and was a farmer most of his life. He resided at Route 2, Fordtown.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Millie Kitzmiller of Fordtown and Mrs. Mable Lang of Taft, Calif.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. G. W. Slaughter. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Lucinda “Lucy” Strickler, 83, Gray, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1988, in Anderson Health Care Center, Gray.

She was a daughter of the late John and Frances Hammett Kitzmiller.

Mrs. Strickler was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orgie Strickler, in 1974.

Survivors include one son, George Strickler, Gray; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Kitzmiller Echols, 68, of Route 11, (Beulah Community), died at 4:20 a.m. Friday at Carter County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born and had spent her entire life in Sullivan County. Mrs. Echols was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church.

Survivors include on daughter, Mrs. C. L. (Fannie) Dickert, Jr., Kingsport; one son, James H. Herbert Echols, Kingsport; one sister, Sarah Lucinda Strickler, Kingsport; and one granddaughter.

Hubert Echols, 63, Route 11 (Beulah Community), died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at his home after a short illness.

He was employed by the City of Kingsport as the operator of the Church Circle Parking Lot. He attended the Baptist Church.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Kitzmiller Echols, Kingsport; daughter, Mrs. C. L. Dickert, Kingsport, son, James Herbert Echols, Kingsport.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Carter's Chapel.

ECHOLS, HUBERT

Funeral services for Hubert Echols, of Route 11, Beulah Community, who died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at his home after a short illness. He was employed by the City of Kingsport as the operator of the Church Circle Parking Lot. He was born in West Virginia and attended the Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 p.m. Tuesday at Carter's Chapel with the Rev. J. W. Depew officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the Kingsport Police Department. Carter's Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are George Rogers, Billy Mitchell, Jessie Parsons, Howard Sullon, George Cox, and Eugene Spears.

KNOXVILLE -- Richard Frank Hawk, 72, of Knoxville Rt. 17 died at University of Tennessee Hospital at 6:45 p.m. Friday after a long illness.

He was a member of Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Irene Bishop Hawk; sons, Richard of Lenore City and Lawrence Hawk, Knoxville; daughter, Mrs. Lois Virginia Moseley, Chattanooga; sisters, Mrs. Irene Chase, Mrs. Iva G. Bowery, Mrs. Andrell Hamilton and Mrs. Elizabeth Corum, all of Kingsport; six grandsons and four granddaughters.
