Joan Christian Honaker, age 74, of Kingsport, passed away on June 2, 2021 at her residence surrounded by family.

Joan was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed spending time and shopping with her grandchildren. Her biggest love in life was her dog, Pepper. Joan was a loving mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gale and Ruth Christian; brother, Edward Christian; sisters, Dorothy Hester and Louise Gendron; and half- brother, Robert Christian

She is survived by her husband, Richard Honaker Sr.; daughter, Tonya Sell McMurray; son, Shawn Allen Drust; sisters, Jessie Gillenwater and Alma Bishop; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family of Joan wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Trisha Whitt and Amedisys Hospice for all the care shown during this time.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm in Highland Cemetery with Rev. Mickey Burton officiating. Anyone wishing to attend the service is asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 pm.

SAN MARCOS -- Wendy Elizabeth (Penesk) Landblom was born on April 6, 1965 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Edward S. Penesk and Nancy Elizabeth King. Wendy graduated from Point Loma High School in 1982. She attended San Diego State University in 1991 and received her Liberal Arts Degree. During the winter of 1991, Wendy moved to Pensacola, Florida and completed her Master Degree in Special Education in 1996. She taught grade school special education for eight years in Florida.

On August 13, 2003, Wendy and Lt. Eric M. Landblom were married in San Marcos, California before his deployment to Iraq. She started her teaching career in California that summer at Woodland Park Middle School in Special Education. The students at the middle school enjoyed Wendy's teaching skills for seven years. Wendy had a soft heart for her friends, students, and birds. Wendy enjoyed participating in 5k and half marathons. If it was a challenge, Wendy did it; snow skiing, sky diving, scuba diving, road biking and her last challenge was golfing. She spent many hours at the beaches in Florida and California.

On March 13th, 2011, Wendy lost her nine year battle with cancer. Wendy was survived by her husband, Captain Eric Landblom, (San Marcos, Calif.); and her father, Dr. Edward Penesk (Pensacola, Florida).

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Elizabeth Penesk. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 19th, at South Mesa Chapel, Camp Pendleton, with a reception following at the South Mesa Staff NCO Club, Camp Pendleton. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com.

Mrs. Edna E. King, 117 W. Holston Ave., died at 5:35 p.m. yesterday in Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of Washington County, where she had spent her entire life.

She was a member of Munsey Memorial Methodist Church.

Survivors include the husband, James S. King; one son, Cecil E. of Johnson City; three daughters, Carmel King and Margaret King, both of the home, and Mrs. Ruth Hartley of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. W. F. Caruthers and Mrs. Charlie Whitaker, both of Johnson City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

US Congressman. He was taught at private schools in Jonesboro, Tennessee before attending Princeton University. Admitted to the bar, he commenced law practice in Elizabethton, Tennessee before being elected as a Whig to fill the seat of Brookins Campbell in the 33rd Congress. Taylor ran unsuccessfully for re-election for the 34th Congress, but when Tennessee re-entered the Union in 1865 following the Civil War, he was elected to serve the 39th Congress as a member of the Unionist Party. His sons, Alfred Alexander Taylor and Robert Love Taylor, both served as US Congressmen and as Tennessee Governors, with Robert also serving in the US Senate.

Taylor's father, Nathaniel Green Taylor (1819–1887), served two terms in Congress (1853–1855 and 1866–1867), and published poetry and religious essays. Taylor's brother, Alfred, served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives (1889–1895), and one term as Governor of Tennessee (1921–1923). BULLS GAP -- Rhoda Beatrice Simcox of Bulls Gap, died at Memorial Hospital yesterday evening after an extended illness.

Mrs. Simcox was a native of Johnson City and was the daughter of the late John D. and Rhoda Taylor Reeves. She was a niece of former governors Bob and Alf Taylor.

She was a teacher in Johnson City at the old Barton School and at Princeton School prior to moving to Bulls Gap in 1911. She was a member of Bulls Gap Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Fleming, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Albert Middleton, San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Hobert Rice, Knoxville; two brothers, E. C. Reeves, Abingdon, Va., and John D. Reeves, Johnson City; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Sensabaugh, Knoxville, and Mrs. Roland Craig, Abingdon, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Wednesday at 3 p.m., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sensabaugh, Mr. George P. Simcox and Miss Beatrice Reeves were united in marriage. Dr. W. S. Neighbors being the officiating minister. Mr. Simcox holds a responsible position with the Southern railway company and is a man of sterling worth. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Simcox of Knoxville and is to be congratulated on winning so lovely a bride. Mrs. Simcox is the eldest daughter of Mr.and Mrs. John D. Reeves, her mother being a sister of Senator Robert L. Taylor.

The bride is very popular among a large circle of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Simcox after taking a honeymoon tour, will reside in Johnson City.

George P. Simcox, 50, died at the home of his brother-in-law, J. W. Sensabaugh, 2049 Magnolia avenue, at 12:45 a.m. today.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Hobart Rice, Misses Charlotte, Roberta and Catherine, of Bulls Gap, Tenn.; his father, Samuel Simcox; one brother, Clyde Simcox, of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Cooper, Atlantic City, N. J., Mrs. Sanford Crouch of Florida, and Mrs Coney Yoe.
