Alexander Washington Brabson was born August 6, 1805 in Telford, Washington Co., Tennessee to Thomas and Jane Miller Brabson; he died September 6, 1888 in Telford, Washington Co., Tennessee.
Thomas Brabson father of Alexander married to Jane Miller February 15, 1795 in Berkeley, Virginia (later WV) ; John Boyd Minister matrimony rites. Sometime around 1800 they made their way to Tennessee where Thomas bought land in Greene Co and Washington Co., Tennessee. Thomas sold land to the DeVaults who later built the DeVault on this same land.
John Brabson and Mary Reese were the parents of Thomas and John Bowen Brabson. Thomas settled in Washington Co and John Bowen made his way to made his way to Sevier Co., Tennessee.

Alexander Washington Brabson was a physician serving Washington County, Tennessee for many years. He graduated from Washington College Academy and Lexington, Kentucky.
A daughter June Brabson was born to Alexander and Elizabeth and she is buried with her mother in the Ebenezer Church Cemetery on the Nolichucky River.

News of the death of J. Harrison Haws, prominent Sullivan Countian, and well known in Kingsport, at his home on the Horse Creek Road, near Haws' Cross Road, was received here today. Reports are that Mr. Haws, who is about 80 years of age, died suddenly of heart failure about 11 o'clock yesterday morning.
He was former president of the old Interstate Trust and Savings Bank, now the Farmers and Merchants Bank here. His son, S. N. Haws, now in New York City, is also prominently connected in Kingsport.
Funeral and interment will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock according to the report from Jonesboro, the undertaking establishment there having the body in charge. Arrangements are pending, awaiting word from S. N. Haws. Interment will take place at Jonesboro.
-Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by a brother, Tom Haws, of Horse Creek Road and many other relatives in this section.

Mrs. Rowena Peoples Haws, 84, widow of the late Harrison Haws, died at her home on the Fall Branch road early this morning.
She is survived by one son, S. N. Haws, of Waterboro, S. C., but formerly of Kingsport; four granddaughters, Mrs. W. P. Murphy and Miss Kathleen Haws, New York City; Miss Mary Claire Haws, Knoxville, and Miss Helen Harrison Haws, Waterboro, S. C.; and a niece, Miss Blanche Ryland, who made her home with her.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home Friday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. J. C. Coldiron officiating. Interment rites will be held at the Jonesboro cemetery.

R. Herndon Mercke, 77, president of Jefferson Woodworking Co., died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Hospital East.
He was a native of Louisville and lived at 136 N. Peterson Ave. He had been with the family-owned company 58 years. He was a member of Harvey Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Helen H. Buster, and a daughter, Mrs. Sally Heym, of Boston, Mass.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cave Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to charity.

The marriage of Sharon Brown, former "Miss U.S.A." from Minden, La., and Joe Scales was announced today. The wedding took place last week.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Brown of Minden. She attended Louisiana Tech at Ruston. She was queen of the 1962 Sugar Bowl game, where Alabama beat Arkansas, 10-3, and represented her state as "Miss Louisiana" in the Miss Universe pageant in 1961. She won the "Miss U.S.A. title.
Scales, well-known local golfer, was captain of the 1956 Vanderbilt football team. He is in the investment business.
Mrs. Scales was in Birmingham May 10-13 as queen of the Magic City Open Golf Tournament at Altadena Valley.
The couple is at home in the Park Lane Apartments.
