Roland “Pete” D. Tallman
Passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Aug. 5, 2004. He was 71. Pete was one of the few remaining Smelter workers that once made up the fabric of Ruston. Survived by his wife of 39 years, Edith; daughter Terry; son Michael (Tiffany); grandchildren Desi and Justin. Dad was a honorable man who has left us with great memories.
Special thanks to Tom and Hospice staff. There will be a celebration of his life at his home Sept. 6Th, 11 am. Pete will be inurned at Tahoma National Cemetery.

Susan Faxon Hall-Lark, 63
Sue was born on May 26, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. She died on Thursday, August 14th at Holland Hospital; nine months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Janice Hall; her brother, James Haywood Hall; and her husband, Edward Lark. She is survived by her sister, Scottie Blumke; her sister-in-law, Susan Massengill; three nieces, Barbara Cale (sic), Jennifer Nowry and Karen Jenkins; and three stepchildren, Julianne Lark and her partner Janet, Ryan Lark and his wife Kristen, and Christopher Lark.
Sue graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from Ferris State University (then Ferris State College). After college, Sue lived and worked in Grand Rapids in the insurance industry. In 1983, Sue met Ed Lark and moved to Saugatuck. She is known as a familiar face behind the counter of several downtown Saugatuck retail shops, including but not limited to: Pee Wee Put-Ons, The Village News, Amantes and Cheryl's. Sue was a regular visitor to Oval Beach, and especially enjoyed dinner and sunset with Ed on the deck at the beach house. Sue was also a faithful member of the local "Round Table" group, and migrated with them across many years and various meeting places. She was also known for taking in stray animals and feeding all manner of furry and feathered creatures in her backyard. Sue was the primary care provider for her husband from the time he had a stroke in 1990 until he died in April of 2007. Despite her own battle with cancer, Sue remained enthusiastic and hopeful about the future. On the day before she died, she attended her radiation appointment and took in two garage sales and a milkshake with friends before returning home.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23rd. The Reverend Edie Winter will preside. Friends and family are invited to gather to continue to celebrate her life at The White House, 149 Griffith St., Saugatuck. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of your choice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Sue's friends for their loyal and loving care of her, especially during her recent illness; to the physicians and nurses who cared for her; and to the staff of Dykstra Funeral Home.
She was buried in August 2008 in All Saints Memorial Gardens, Saugatuck, Allegan Co., MI, Findagrave #245322528.

Anglo-American relations received two more strong supporters when Miss Bunty Jackson, daughter of the C. H. Jacksons, of Blackpool, Eng., married Sgt. Edwin James Eckerson, USAAF, on July 4.
The bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Hillman J. Eckerson, of Steel Ave. The ceremony was performed in St. Mark’s Church in Layton, England.
Sgt. Eckerson met the former Miss Jackson while he was serving in England, where he has been stationed for 21 months.
He is now at a base in Warrington, and Mrs. Eckerson resides with her parents in Blackpool, a short distance away.
