Biography

Warren Francis Goodie was born on 1 January 1921 in Quincy, Norfolk Co., MA; son of Alexander James and Eva May (Bumpus) Goodie. Eva's original name was Esther Hertff, and was legally changed, for unknown reasons, by Massachusetts state decree dated 12 SEP 1892. Warren changed his birth surname, apparently legally, shortly after the 1950 census and before his daughter Barbara's 1951 birth, from "Goodie" to "Gaudet". The reason for this change appears to be the following:

Alex Goodie (Warren's father) was apparently born Alexander James Gaudette in 1884 on Prince Edward Island, Canada, or else his father was a Gaudette. His 1905 naturalization record shows his surname as "Goodie", but he was already 21 years old at that time, and no Canadian record of him is available. In the Boston, MA area in the same time frame as the Goodies lived an Alexander John Gaudette, son of Joseph Leopold Gaudette who was born in 1861 in "French" Canada, i.e. Quebec. The parents of that Alexander Gaudette were Joseph Leopold "Paul" and Esmarie "Mary" (Lavoilette) Gaudette, from Quebec, Canada, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1870 and 1875, respectively, per the 1900 census of Brookfield, MA (surname misspelled "Goddard"). In that family, the public records show the surname variously as Gaudette, Gaudet, Godet, and Goodie.

Warren was educated and apparently discovered that his ancestral surname was Gaudette. So he resumed the original family surname, in the form of "Gaudet", prior to the birth of his first child. He married Anne Marie Carter, daughter of William Jackson Carter and Ann Ruth "Anna" Bowman, on 3 December 1948 in Portsmouth, Rockingham Co., NH. Warren Francis Goodie died on 19 June 2010 in Johnson City, Washington Co., TN.

Warren Francis Goodie was also known as Warren Francis Gaudet. He lived in April 1950 in Needham, Norfolk Co., MA. He lived from 1991 to 1995 in Lakeview Drive, Johnson City, Washington Co., TN.
