Mrs. Carter, 74, dies of attack
Mrs. Anna Ruth Carter, 74, Boxwood Terrace Apartments, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a daughter of the later Joseph Robert Bowman.
Mrs. Carter was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors are her husband, W. J. Carter; two sons, Robert B. and W. J. Carter Jr., both of Johnson City; three daughters, Mrs. Anne Gaudet, White Plains, N.Y., Mrs Margaret Anderson, Chattanooga, and Mrs. Janice Walker, Miami, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Julia Keefauver Bowman, Johnson City; one brother, Dr. J. R. Bowman, city; one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Haynes, city, and several nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Kathryn Bowman Haynes, 82, Appalachian Christian Village, formerly of Boxwood Terrace Apartments, died Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Christian Village following an illness of about two years.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a daughter of the late Joseph Robert and Julia Catherine Keefauver Bowman Sr.
Mrs. Haynes was a retired insurance agent and a member of the First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lawrence Haynes, in 1963.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Lawrence B. Haynes, Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Dr. J.R. Bowman Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mrs. Kathryn Bowman Haynes, age 82, of Appalachian Christian Village, formerly of Boxwood Terrace Apartments, who died Sunday afternoon will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Monte Vista Burial Park with Dr. Ralph E. Sims, Minister officiating. A Memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Appalachian Christian Village. Pallbearers who are requested to be at the cemetery by 9:45 a.m. will be Robert B. Carter, W.J. (Bill) Carter, Jr., W.J. (Bill) Carter, III, Robert B. (Bo) Carter, Jr., Jack Anderson & Jack Cox. The family requests for those who wish memorials may be made to the Appalachian Christian Village new Nursing Wing. The family will receive friends in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Appalachian Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

RALEIGH – Linda Cox Haynes, 58, of 728 Lakestone Dr., died Thursday.
She was born on July 27, 1938 in Johnson City Tenn. She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and was an active member of Alpha Delta PI Lions Share Scholarship Fund.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Lawrence B. Haynes; mother, Mrs. J. Lafe Cox of Johnson City, Tenn.; daughters, Leigh Ann Zaytoun and her husband, Ellis of Raleigh, Susan H. Little and her husband, Bill of Wilmington and Mary Kathryn Mathys and her husband Patrick of Goldsboro; brother Jackson L. Cox of Johnson City, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Lawrence H. Zaytoun and Christian S. Zaytoun.
A memorial service will be held Saturday 4 p.m., Christ Church. Burial will follow in the church garden.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary’s St.

Dr. Joseph Robert Bowman, MD '33, died April 27, 1999. He was 92. He was a pioneer in the field of pediatric surgery, being one of three in the United States after completion of his residence. He retired from medicine in 1990 after 57 years of practice. He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret, three daughters and one grandson.

Longtime physician Bowman dies
Dr. Joseph Robert Bowman, 92, 761 Boone Station Road, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.
Dr. Bowman was a native of Boones Creek and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Joseph Robert Bowman Sr. and Julia Catherine Keefauver.
He was a graduate of Boones Creek High School and Milligan College.
Dr. Bowman received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and completed a residency in pediatrics at Cincinnati General Hospital in Ohio. He practiced as a pediatrician in Johnson City for eight years before completing a residency in pediatric surgery at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Boston. He was a pioneer in the field of pediatric surgery, being one of three in the United States after completing his residency.
In 1974 he relocated to Palm Beach Fla., where he entered the medical fields of emergency room medicine and family practice. During his Florida tenure, he developed the first paramedic EMS program for palm Beach County. He retired from the field of medicine in 1990 after 57 years of practice and returned to East Tennessee.
Dr. Bowman served tenures as president of the Johnson City Preaching Mission and the Johnson City Community Concert Association. He served as chairman of the board of Milligan College.
He was a member of the Hurstleigh Club and the Rotary Club and was on the planning board for the development of Appalachian Christian Village.
Dr. Bowman served as deacon and elder at First Christian Church, an elder at Sharon Christian Church, West palm Beach, Fla., and was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Beeson Bowman; three daughters, Ahn Beeson Bowman Bradley, Johnson City, Julia Beeson Bowman, Chicago, and Marylyn Beeson Bowman, Kingsport; one grandson, William Bowman Bradley, Johnson City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Bowman
Mrs. Mary Margaret Beeson Bowman, age 92, of the Boones Creek Community, Johnson City, died on Friday, January 23, 2004, in the Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol, following a lengthy illness.
She was born December 4, 1911, in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ella Anderson Beeson. She was a graduate of the Wiley High School, studied at the Jordan Conservatory of Music and received her degree from Indiana State University.
Following her graduation, she taught music for 10 years in the Paris, IL. School System.
She was a gifted vocalist from the age of three. She sang professionally, and studied under the tutelage of Romano Romani in New York at the age of 15. After studying in New York, she traveled extensively throughout the United States with the Paul Ashe Troupe. In 1940, while visiting in Johnson City friends from Terre Haute, Indiana, Dr. and Mrs. Pete Fugua, she met her husband, Dr. Joseph Robert Bowman at the Hurstleigh Club Dance at the Johnson City County Club. She and Dr. Bowman married three years later on October 10, 1943.
She was active in numerous civic and social endeavors including The Garden Club, The Junior Service league, the Washington County-Unicoi County Medical Auxiliary, of which she had served as president, and the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority of which she served as sponsor of the East Tennessee University Chapter, and was co-founder and past president of the Johnson City Community Concerts. In 1974, she and Dr, Bowman moved to Singer Island, Florida, where she served as a member and president of the Palm Beach County Medical Auxiliary. She and Dr, Bowman returned to Johnson City in 1990, where she spent the last years of her life on the family farm in the Boones Creek Community.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Johnson City for many years and was presently a member of the Boones Creek Christian Church. Her husband, Dr. Joseph Robert Bowman, preceded Mrs. Bowman in death on April 27, 1999.
She is survived by three daughters, Ahn Beeson Bowman of the home, Julia Beeson Bowman of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Marilyn Beeson Bowman of Johnson City.; one grandson, William Bowman Bradley of the home; one sister, Lavern Beeson Roberts of Terre Haute, IN.; and many loved nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bowman will be conducted at 3:00 P.M.. Tuesday, January 27, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services of Johnson City with Mr. Charles I. Reece, minister, officiating.
Music will be under the direction of Ambers Wilson, pianist. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the funeral home from 1:30 P.M. Tuesday until the service time. Friends who wish to make donations in memory of Mrs. Bowman may make donations to the Appalachian Christian Village, 2012 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601.
