Young People from Tennessee Plight Their Troth in Wilmington
Mr. James B. Thomas, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Miss Vona Keefevver (sic) of Jonesboro, Tenn., were married in Justice Bornemann's office yesterday afternoon. Both are young people and came to Wilmington for a brief visit. They stated they did not wish the marriage to be announced just yet as they expected it to be a great surprise their friends when they return home. Justice Bornemann officiated at the wedding in his own well known graceful manner.

Robert “Ken” Archer
KINGSPORT – Robert “Ken” Archer, age 85, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday evening, January 9, 2006, at Asbury Center of Baysmont after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Gray and grew up in Johnson City. Mr. Archer was a member, former Elder and Deacon of Northeast Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. Mr. Archer was a member of American Legion Post #3382. He was president and co-owner of Kingsport Dental Lab until his retirement in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Archer and Rosa Keefauver Archer; four brothers Phil Archer, Warren Archer, Fred Archer and Paul Archer.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Archer of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Chernesky and husband George of Kingsport, Carol Jarrett and husband Kim of Piney Flats; Six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Grace Muse of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 2:00 PM with Minister Craig Cottongim officiating. Entombment services will immediately follow in Oak Hill Mausoleum II. The family will receive friends following entombment services. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Archer family via e-mail at oakhill@stei.com.
The staff of Oak Hill Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations are honored to serve the family of Mr. Robert “Ken” Archer.

WARREN G. ARCHER
Warren G. Archer, 51, 800 East Chilhowee Ave., was pronounced dead on arrival at Johnson City Memorial Hospital at 1 a.m.. Sunday from an apparent heart attack suffered at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Washington County, he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Rosa Nell Archer. He was a dental technician, an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of Brookmeade Church of Christ.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mary Lou Booth Archer of the home; two sons, Warren Douglas and John Eugene, both of the home; four brothers; Phil Archer of Ft. Sam Houston, Tex., Kenneth and Fred Archer, both of Kingsport, and Paul Archer of Johnson City; one sister, Mrs. Grace Muse of Mountain City, Tenn.

FRED D. ARCHER
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Fred DeVault Archer, 73, 3528 Celtic Court, Kingsport, Tenn., died Thursday, May 21, 1998 at New Hanover Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Archer was a Johnson City, Tenn., native and had lived in Kingsport most of his life. He was a son of the late E.E. and Rose Keefauver Archer.
Mr. Archer was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He was co-owner of Kingsport Dental Labs.
Mr. Archer was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Hazel Wright Archer, and two brothers.

Graveside funeral services for Paul Archer, 73, 3209 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, who died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, will be held Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery, Johnson City, with Mr. Kevin Kay, minister, officiating. Mary Lou Platt
Mary Lou Archer Platt, 81, of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at her residence.
She was a native of Johnson City and the daughter of the late Noah and Inga Sue Booth. Mrs. Platt was a member of Grandview Christian Church. She was a graduate of Science Hill High School. She was the second Certified Medical Assistant in the state of Tennessee. Mrs. Platt was the State President of AAMA and had held the Secretary and Treasurer positions with AAMA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren G. Archer; son, Warren D. Archer; and brothers, Ted and N.M. Booth.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. John Platt, of the home; son, John E. Archer and wife, Susan J., Johnson City; step-sons, John P. Platt Jr. and wife, Toni, Houston, Texas, James B. Platt and wife, Lisa, Nashville, David K. Platt and wife, Debbie, Laramie, Wyoming, and William M. Platt, MD, and wife, Cindy, Kingsport; step-daughters, Margaret Platt Happel and husband, Thomas, Camden, S.C., and Suzanne Marie Platt and husband, Ron, Colfax, Calif.; fifteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mrs. Platt will be conducted at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2009, from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Hill, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John E. Archer II, William M. Platt, MD, Warren D. Archer Jr., Benjamin Bush Platt, Michael R. Archer and James B. Platt. Honorary pallbearers will be John P. Platt Jr., Benny Garrison, Matthew Platt, John Haynie and Woody Underwood.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2009, from the East Parlor of the funeral home.

Warren Douglas Archer Sr., 48, Johnson City, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and a son of Mary Lou Archer Platt, Hilton Head, S.C., and the late Warren Archer.
Mr. Archer was a 1971 Science Hill High School graduate.
He was co-owner of Kingsport Dental Laboratories.
Mr. Archer was coach of the G.I.C. Team, having been a long-time coach in the American Little League Association.
He was an active member of Central Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Mrs. Mary Ruth Starnes Archer; two sons, Warren Douglas Archer, Jr. and Michael Douglas Archer, both of the home; two daughters, Lauren Elizabeth Archer and Holly Anne Archer, both of the home; one brother, John E. Archer, Johnson City; his stepfather, Dr. John Platt, Hilton Head; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
