WEDDING MAY END A FEUD AT MONTPELIER
STARR BOY AND HUMPHREY GIRL ARE MARRIED
TROUBLES OF TWO FAMILIES
(Special to The Indianapolis News)
HARTFORD CITY, Ind., July 8 -- A wedding may put an end to a feud at Montpelier. There has been trouble between the families of George W. Humphrey and Dick and Benjamin Starr at Montpelier for several months. Last week Dick Starr, an ex-convict, went to the Humphrey home and, with revolver in hand, coolly informed Humphrey that he had come to kill him and the entire family. Dick Starr was reinforced by his brother, Benjamin Starr. Humphrey got down an old army musket and banged the charge into Dick, who, with his brother Benjamin, beat a retreat. Humphrey was arrested. Starr has since been under the care of a physician, and a special session of the grand jury investigated the case.
A Starr-Humphrey Union.
This morning Ben Starr, age twenty, and May Humphrey, age seventeen, were married in the county clerk's office here. May is the daughter of George Humphrey, who shot Dick Starr, and before the grand jury she gave testimony against her father. She has since been staying most of the time with the Starrs. Mrs. Humphrey accompanied her daughter and made affidavit for her, while C. C. Starr performed a like service for his son Ben.
The feud has attracted considerable attention, and the good people of Montpelier hope the wedding will heal the breach between the families.
Benjamin W. Starr died on 7 November 1911 in Bernie, Stoddard Co., MO,

Dexter Statesman.
Tuesday morning, November 7, at 7:30 o'clock, Ben Starr was shot and killed by Dave Floyd at a farm near Bernie. It is reported that Floyd had done some ditching for Starr, and an altercation arose over the settlement for the work. There were several eye witnesses to the killing. Floyd left the neighborhood immediately following his deed, and it was reported he had gone to Bloomfield, but up to 7:00 p.m. yesterday he ad not arrived in the county seat. Floyd used a shot gun on Starr, who was attended by Dr. T. C. Allen of Bernie, to whose office friends of the wounded man bore Starr. The killing occurred in the same neighborhood where the shooting of a woman took place last year. The Starrs came from Indiana some time ago, while Floyd, who was working for James Starr (sic), the father of the dead man, came from Arkansas.
He was buried in November 1911 in Grove Cemetery, Poneto, Wells Co., IN.
