Dr. Paul Cochran PhD. Rodgers lived on 17 April 1930 in Glendale, Hamilton Co., OH.1 He lived on 10 April 1950 in 22 West 706 Street, Orangetown, Rockland Co., NY.2

Note:

My grandmother, Olive K. (Rodgers) Wendell, was aware that a distant cousin was a professor at Wittenberg College in Springfield, and at some point while she lived at New Carlisle and was still driving, in the 1970s, arranged to meet Paul Rodgers. She reported to the family that he was a very nice and highly educated man with a number of adult children.

In the early 2000s, when I had begun researching family history and was posting on rootsweb.com mailing lists and other emerging Internet genealogy fora, Paul Rodgers made contact with me. We had a pleasant telephone conversation and he invited me to his home in Springfield for a visit.

I found Paul an excellent conversationalist and interesting personality. He had lost his wife to cancer a couple years previously, and had himself been diagnosed with a throat cancer and was recovering from surgical removal of some salivary glands. He found himself at a point where he needed to shut down his house and get into a downsized living arrangement. After getting to know each other a bit, he showed me his great-grandfather, Rev. James Rodgers', office chair from the Springfield Presbyterian Female Seminary, which Paul had inherited from his father. He asked me if I would like to have it and care for it. I was slightly shocked, and asked if any of his children wouldn't be a better recipient. He told me they were widely dispersed geographically, except for a son there in Springfield, and none of them showed any interest in the family history or heirlooms. So I did accept the offer and took that chair home where I lived in Fairborn.

The chair was in very worn condition, although its original Victorian design and qualities were visible. I kept it safely stored for a couple of years until after we relocated to Centerville, Ohio. Then I took it to the same furniture refinisher who had refurbished the antique Victorian loveseat from my great-grandparents Rodgers, and also the antique chair from the Rodgers home in Valleyview, Ohio, which my mother remembered from her girlhood. He had enough of the fabric from the loveseat project left over that he was able to use it to refurbish the office chair. He did a beautiful job on that chair and it is a cherished piece of our living room furniture today. DLB 2023.
