Martha Alexander was the daughter and youngest of six children of James Charles and Susan (Smyth) Alexander. Her father died while she was young in Pioneer, Cedar County.

She married to William Henry Cook on Dec. 30, 1891 in Mount Vernon. He was the son of Arthur W. and Martha S. (Owsley) Cook. After living a short time in Charles City the family moved to Webster City.
During their 36 years in Webster City, Mr. Cook was in the music business and was active in promoting artist concerts in the city. When his health failed in 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Cook moved to Ames to be with their daughter, Rosalind, who is an instructor in the music department at Iowa State college.
She was buried in 1938 in Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, Story Co., IA, Findagrave #183963763.
Martha E. Alexander was also known as "Mattie" Alexander.

Funeral for W. H. Cook Held Monday
Funeral services for W. H. Cook, 83, who died Saturday noon at his home at 291? West street, were held at 2 p. m., Monday from the Adams chapel. Burial was in the Ames cemetery.
The Rev. A. R. McLaughlin of the Congregational church and the Rev. Walter Barlow of the Collegiate Presbyterian church were in charge of the service.

David Bried Smyth, 99, a retired banker, died here Monday.
Born Feb. 24, 1859, at Marion, the son of William and Mary Brier Smyth, he would have been a 100 next month.
Mr. Smyth's father was a congressman from the old Iowa Second district and also was head of the Oak Shade Cemetery Ass. when the first addition was laid out. Mr Smyth attended the Marion schools, Cornell college, Mt. Vernon, and Grinnell college.
He began work in 1881 at the First National bank, Marion. He was married at Spencer to Mary Pinneo on Nov. 14, 1883. They moved to Kansas in 1890. In 1919 they moved to Wyoming and returned to Kansas in 1928. In 1931 they moved to Nebraska where Mrs. Smyth died Oct. 8, 1933. Mr. Smyth returned to Marion on Oct. 6, 1943, and has lived here since. He joined the old Marion Congregational church in 1876.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Mary E. Fraker, Greeley, Colo., and Heloise Lasnier, Concordia, Kan.
Services are pending arrival of his daughters. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
A reunion with his daughters was being planned for Mr. Smyth's 100th birthday.
He was buried in January 1959 in Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Linn Co., IA, Find A Grave Memorial# 130909531.
