[S78] Obituary of Lewis Triem (Daily Courier, Waterloo, Iowa, Thursday 21 July 1904), Article 1, column 7, Lewis Triem, Pioneer Resident, Passes Away Yesterday Had Been an Invalid for Several Years. Died of Old Age. Funeral Services Friday Afternoon From Family Home. LaPorte City, July 21 (Special) Another one of the pioneer residents of this section of Black Hawk County passed to his reward yesterday at 4:15 p.m. in the person of Lewis Triem. Lewis Triem was born in Germany April 12, 1822. He came to America and to Stark County, Ohio, some eight years later, or in 1830, and remained there and was married in 1844. He continued to live in Stark County for about eight years after his marrieage, when the family moved to Will County, Illinois, where they lived some seventeen years, coming to Iowa in 1869. Upon their arrival in Iowa they bought what was then known as the Reeves farm in the bend of the river some two and one-half miles east of LaPorte City. On this farm they made their home until the year 1888, when they gave up farming and bought residence property in LaPorte City, where they have since made their home. Mr. Triem's health began failing him before he left the farm and it was on this account that he gave up farming. Eight children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Triem, four of whom, and the widow and mother, survive as follows: Mrs. Lewis Triem, Edward E. Triem and Mrs. O. Van Brocklyn of this city, Mrs. Wm. Scheurer of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, who is at present in the city, and Dr. P. E. Triem of Manchester, Iowa, who is at present touring in the state of Washington, besides one brother, Peter Triem, living at Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held from the family home on Bishop's Avenue on Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m., with religious services in both English and German, as the deceased was a member of the German Evangelical church of this city, and the remains will be laid to rest in West View Cemetery. Mr. Triem was an honorable, upright citizen of German nativity and enjoyed the respect and confidence of all with whom he became acquainted.
