MIDDLETON --- Dr. Charles K. Alexander, age 89, of 3662 Valley Ridge Road in Middleton, passed away on January 8, 1995, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

He was born May 5, 1905 to Charles S. and Nora (Kohl) Alexander in Lisbon, Iowa.

He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, his Masters from the University of Iowa and his PhD. in economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1938. He was united in marriage to Jean Gardner on August 25, 1937and is survived by her. Dr. Alexander was employed by the Wisconsin Taxpayer’s Alliance in 1932, until his retirement as Executive Vice President in 1972. He was the original author of the Wisconsin Taxpayer’s Alliance Tax book, “The Framework of Your Wisconsin Government”, which is still used in Wisconsin schools. After his retirement, he continued to act as private consultant in government, finance and taxation. For twenty years, he was consultant to the Legislative Highway Advisory Committee and was a member and secretary of the former Wisconsin Turnpike Commission. He was active in civic and community affairs including the former Community Chest, president of the Madison Recreation Council, and former treasurer and president of the Madison YMCA. He was also a member of the Nakoma Golf Club, the Downtown Madison Kiwanis Club and the Madison Club.

Since his retirement, Dr. Alexander maintained his interest in a farm near Lisbon, Iowa, which has been in his family for over 100 years. He loved to spend summers in a summer house in Fence, Wisconsin and to winter on Kauai.

He is survived by his wife, Nora; three sons, John (Susan) of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, James of Madison, and Robert (Karen) of Menomonee Falls; his daughter, Jean Ann (Sigurd) Gundersen III of La Crosse; and five grandchildren, Ann, Michael, Scott, Erin and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Charles Gardner.

A private memorial service was held for his family and his remains shall rest in Garden Bluff Cemetery in Lodi, Wisconsin.

He was buried in January 1995 in Garden Bluff Cemetery, Lodi, Columbia Co., WI, Findagrave #155003591.

BROOKFIELD – Mrs. Jean G. Alexander, 83, formerly of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2000, at her residence in Brookfield, Wisconsin. She was born on March 1, 1917, to the late Leslie O. and Alma Gardner in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. She was educated in Athens, Wisconsin, and following her graduation, she was employed by the Wisconsin Taxpayer’s Alliance in Madison. She was united in marriage to Charles K. Alexander on August 25, 1937. She spent the majority of her married life in Madison, where she served as both member and president of the Nakoma Welfare League and as a volunteer at Madison General Hospital. She was an active member of the Madison Civics Club, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Madison and later a founding member of First Baptist Church of Waunakee, Wisconsin. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She loved to travel, to bird watch, to take a hike in the woods and especially to spend time at her summer home in Fence, Wisconsin. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved people and was a generous friend to many. She is survived by three sons and one daughter, John (Susan) of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, James of Madison, Robert (Karen) of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and Jean Ann Gundersen (Sigurd, III) of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Her seven grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Ann Elizabeth, Michael, Scott, Erin, Elizabeth Jean, Sarah and Rebecca, also survived her.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2000, in the chapel of the CONGREGATIONAL HOME, 3150 Lilly Road, Brookfield. Jean will always be remembered as a beautiful and vibrant lady who died as she lived, in grace and dignity, surrounded by her loving family. Most importantly she died in full assurance of her salvation by grace through faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
