Donald Stewart, 78, of Williston, passed away at his home, under the care of hospice, on Tuesday morning, October 24, 2017.
Donald was born in Williston on March 31, 1939 to Bill and Mable (Semler) Stewart. He graduated from Williston High School in 1958, then joined the U.S. Navy.
In 1962 he married Elizabeth (Liz) Fenster and to this union three children were born.
While in the Navy he went to nuclear power school and was stationed on the USS Enterprise and the Bainbridge; he travelled to many countries and saw the world. He also spent time as a Navy recruiter in Minot before his honorable discharge.
After the Navy he joined the National Guard and went back to school at Williston State College where he obtained an Associates Degree in auto mechanics. He put this training to work for the remainder of his career working for Jerry Harmon Motors, Murphy Motors, OK Tire and the State Highway Department in Williston.
Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman and always had a good story to tell you. He could tell you about any sporting event going on whether it was local or professional. He attended many Coyote high school sporting events and supported the local Tetons. Even though his health required him to use oxygen, this did not prevent him from attending these events. Donald retired at the age of 62; this allowed him to spend time with his 6 grandchildren which he thought the world of. He was also blessed to have time with 8 great-grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his wife, Liz; daughter, Dawn Holte (Mark Bates) and her daughter Tiah Rigby;. sons, Mark (Patti) and their children Emily and Michelle; Scott and his children Tate (Kiana) Sorenson, Tylor Sorenson and Jordan Stewart; sister, Lois (John) Pearce; sisters-in-law, Mary Stewart, Marilyn Stewart and Sheila Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mabel; brothers, Bill, Larry and Roger (Peewee).
Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home.
He was buried in October 2017 in Riverview Cemetery, Williston, Williams Co., ND, Findagrave #184584122.
Donald E. Stewart began military service U.S. Navy service, USS Enterprise and USS Bainbridge. He lived in 2016 in Williston, Williams Co., ND.

Roger Stewart, 74, died Friday, July 15, 2016 at his Tea home, from complications of renal failure.
Roger Clarence Stewart was born on June 22, 1942, in Williston, ND, the son of William J. and Mabel (Semler) Stewart. He grew up here and graduated from Williston High School in 1961. He then graduated from the North Dakota State School of Science, Whapeton with an electrician’s degree.
On April 27, 1963 he married Marilyn Baldner at Mantador, ND.
The couple lived in Bismarck for a year and a half before moving to Madison, MN, where they lived for next 20 years. From there they lived in Bedford, OH for five years, St. Paul for 13 years and retired to Tea, SD. They wintered in Apache Junction, AZ the las t six years.
Roger worked as an electrician for 25 years and as a teacher for 20 years, instructing at risk youth in the educational branch of home builders for the U.S. Job Corps. Roger belonged to the Catholic faith. While living in Madison, MN, Roger was a member of the Moose Lodge, Madison Clown Club, Madison Volunteer Fire Department, Madison Jaycee’s and a Boy Scout leader.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf and camp near the Missouri River..
Besides his parents, Roger was preceded in death by two brothers: Bill and Larry.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of over 53 years, Marilyn. Tea; four children: Jim (Pam) Stewart, Hurley, SD, Jon (Sherri) Stewart, Cologne, MN, Sara (Lance) Jaeger, Norwood, MN and Lori (Michael) Zabak, Broadview Heights, OH; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings: Don (Liz) Stewart and Lois (John) Pearcy both of Williston, ND as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Orland served his country during WWII and was a member of the American Legion #526, Dignam Whitmore Post of Fairborn, the Byron Church, a distributor with Pet Milk Company of Coldwater, and a realtor in Greene County for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marilyn, infant son, Batdorf, and 3 brothers, Charles, Lawrence and Lyle Semler.
Survivors include his wife, Florence (Batdorf), of 62 years, daughter, Orlas (Gordon) Schwallie of Fairborn, two grandchildren, Brenda (Steven) Ring of Carmel, IN, and Stephen Schwallie of Racine, WI. Two great-grandchildren, Bennet and Nolan Ring.
