David E. Miller was born on 1 February 1824.¹ He married Sarah G. Reese, daughter of John Reese and Elizabeth, on 29 March 1855.² David E. Miller died on 26 March 1913 Mr. Miller was a member of the Baltimore and Frederick Mining Co., and in its interest went to Calif. in 1849, returning in 1853. He made the journey by water to Panama, crossed the isthmus on foot and thence by water to California. The company dissolved after the first year and for two years Mr. Miller toiled with pick and shovel. He returned with two companions to the Isthmus of Panama where the two were stricken with a fever and died. Mr. Miller returned home with about $6,000 as a result of his trip. From letters of Mrs. G. W. Barnhizer.¹
