Services Held Wednesday For John Schreiner

Funeral services for John Schreiner, who died Sunday evening at the Plainview hospital, were held Wednesday afternoon at the home at 1:30 and at the Plainview Methodist church at two o’clock. Rev. C. R. Tanner officiated.

John W. Schreiner, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Schreiner was born at Peru, Illinois, June 30, 1880, the seventh of 14 children, and passed away November 9, 1952 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 9 days.

He moved with his parents to Burr, Nebraska and from there to a farm in Pierce County.

On March 23, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Lingenfelter. This union was blessed with 5 children. Two, Frances Marie and Myron David, passed away in infancy.

Mr. Schreiner had been in failing health for the past two years. Early Saturday morning he suffered a stroke and was brought to the Plainview hospital that afternoon where he passed away the next evening.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife; one son, Frank, of Plainview, two daughters, Mrs. Ferd Weinrich of Plainview, and Mrs. Harvey Frink of Creighton; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Gus, of Sutherland, Iowa; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and seven sisters and two children.

Burial was in the Pleasant View cemetery at Plainview with his nephews, Bob Schreiner, George Schreiner, Ora Schreiner, Les Weber, Roy Schreiner, and Forest Schreiner as pallbearers.

He was buried in November 1952 in Pleasant View Cemetery, Plainview, Pierce Co., NE, Findagrave #163536209.

Funeral Here Friday for Merle Waldow

Funeral services for Merle Waldow, 44, who was killed instantly when struck by a car near Spokane, Wash., Tuesday, Nov. 28, were conducted here Friday afternoon at Zion Lutheran church. The Rev. Edward Keller, pastor, officiated.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Goedeker, Kenneth Doerr, Willard Fuchtman, Elmer Fuchtman, Leonard Wortman and Francis Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Rice, Walter Fuchtman, Harry Schraeder, Lawrence Frisch, Gerald Homan and Walter Timmerman. Creighton business places were close during the funeral.

Mr. Waldow, a farmer and trucker, had trucked a load of hogs to Spokane, Wash. and planned to bring cattle back, his usual procedure. A pickup truck, borrowed from the motel where he stayed, stalled on a freeway. Mr. Waldow was struck by a passing vehicle when he was investigating the trouble.

Merle Floyd Waldow, son of Oscar and Ann Mae Waldow, was born at Creighton, May 17, 1923. He was married to Ethel E. Weinrich on June 15, 1947. One son was born to them.

Mr. Waldow was a member of the Creighton Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his widow; son, Danny, a sophomore at Creighton High School; one brother, Oren of Sacramento, Calif. and two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Kennicutt of Lafayette, Calif. and Mrs. Marjorie Weber of Hermiston, Ore.

Buddy Wayne Miles, 83, of Austin, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015. He was born April 28, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska. Buddy is the son of Wilma and Herschel Miles.

Buddy worked the family farm in Dorsey, Nebraska as a young boy, and served in Company B of the 145th Infantry 37th Division as the Korean War came to a close. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and worked at General Electric in Louisville, Kentucky and IBM in Lexington, Kentucky and Austin, Texas. Buddy is remembered for his robust handshake which remained strong and welcoming even through recent years with Alzheimer's disease. It was his way of saying "Hello, Great to see you, Love you, and Come back soon." While Buddy had a humble, steady, practical, helping manner, he loved a great laugh, sported a bit of orneriness, and cherished playful times with his grandchildren on the lake and at the beach.

Visitation will be at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar, Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted at Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Ave. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Buddy's grandchildren.

Buddy is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Dona Miles.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Miles, three sons, Chet Miles and his wife Wendy, Ian Miles, and Hersh Miles and his wife, Cathy all of the Austin area. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Spencer, Tyler, Adina and her husband Mark, Briana, Drew, all in central Texas, his brother Ben Miles and his wife Thelma in North Platte, Nebraska, brother-in-law Donnie Jenkinson in Plainview, Nebraska, sister-in-law Ethel Waldow in Creighton, Nebraska, and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
