Dr. Patricia Jane Stuff died on 21 February 2007 in Wisconsin

Obituary -- The Post-Crescent, Appleton, Wisconsin; Friday, 23 FEB 2007, p.20 (Newspapers.com):

Stuff MD, Patricia J.

Patricia Jane Stuff, MD, of Bonduel, died Feb. 21, 2007, following a prolonged illness. Born on May 11, 1929, Patricia was the only child of Ralph and Marjorie (Cashman) Stuff of Polo, Illinois. Patricia's husband, William W. Grover Jr., M.D., preceded her in death.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Sara Grover (David Prestrud), Apex, North Carolina; Thea Grover-Patrick (Peter Patrick), Charlottesville, Virginia; and William Wesley "Wes" Grover III (Sue Daly Grover), Lincolnshire, Illinois. Sustaining her during the recent years were her five grandchildren: Aaron Prestrud, Alex Prestrud, Micaela Grover, William Grover IV and Bradley Grover.

"Dr. Pat" as she was affectionately referred to, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and physician. She leaves behind a legacy as a health care practitioner, advocate for education and committed public servant. She and her husband established the Bonduel clinic in 1957 and worked in partnership until his health deteriorated, at which time she continued on in a solo practice until retiring in 1997. She considered it an honor to have served as the family physician for multiple generations of numerous area families.

Her work extended beyond the clinic into the community. In 1964, she led the effort to establish mental health services at the county level and remained involved until 2006. She volunteered as medical director of the Shawano Community Hospice program until last year. She served on the Board of the Shawano Area Community Foundation and was honored this January as the Shawano Country Person of the Year. Dr. Stuff made time to serve in professional organizations at the state and national level. In 1973, she was elected the first woman officer in the history of the Wisconsin State Medical Society. Recognizing the need for increased participation on the part of women in medical associations, she chaired the American Medical Association (AMA) Committee on Women Physicians in Organization Medicine, which lead to the development of the AMA Women's Caucus.

She and her husband, strong believers in higher education, donated the honoraria and reimbursements from their many boards and committees through the years to local education. In 1997, these funds, along with her additional contribution, were used to establish the Grover-Stuff Bonduel Scholarship Fund. This Fund provides an annual academic scholarship to a Bonduel High School senior. Recently, her energies were committed to the cause of domestic abuse. She dedicated herself to the development of Safe Haven, a Shawano-area shelter for victims of abuse, where she served on its Board from 1998 to 2006.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church of Shawano with the Rev. Susan Phillips officiating.

Dr. Patricia Jane Stuff was educated in Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Linn Co., IA. She was graduated in University of Denver, Denver, CO. She received a degree in Woman's Medical College, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA. She lived in 1957 in Bonduel, Shawano Co., WI.
