James Callahan Ballard was born in September 1867 in West Virginia.¹ He married Elizabeth Ellen Starr, daughter of Harrison Starr and Sarah Malissa Yoho, in 1888, after her 1912 divorce, Elizabeth remarried briefly to Asbury Morgan Morris in 19120, then remarried to George Dye in 1927.² James Callahan Ballard and were divorced in 1912. He died in 1937.

He was buried in 1937 in Masonic Cemetery, Clarksburg, Harrison Co., WV.

James Callahan Ballard lived on 2 June 1900 in Tucker District, Wirt Co., WV.¹ He lived on 12 May 1910 in Clay District, Wood Co., WV.³
