Johannes Snapp was born in 1746 in Frederick Co., VA.1 He married Anna Maria Wendel, daughter of Christophel Wendel and Catherine Brumbach, in 1770 in Strasburg, Shenandoah Co., VA. Johannes Snapp died on 12 December 1818 in Washington Co., TN.

He was buried in December 1818 in Old Snapp Cemetery, Greene Co., TN.
Johannes Snapp was also known as "John" Snapp.

Note: John Snapp was a Revolutionary War soldier (as were most of his brothers) in Capt. John Tipton's Company of Dunmore, Shenandoah County, Militia with the rank of Ensign (see Revolutionary War Records - Virginia by Brumbaugh). He was also a Tax collector for Lord Fairfax. He sold horses to George Washington. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace by Governor Patrick Henry on August 27, 1778 in Shenandoah Co. About 1790 he purchased 694 acres on Mill Creek, Rockingham County, Virginia (named Meadow View). This land he purchased from Thomas Stephenson the son of John Stephenson, the earliest settler in the Mill Creek Valley. At that time he was one of the largest landowners in Rockingham Co. By an Act of Assembly passed December 7, 1791 he was made a trustee of the newly formed town of Keezletown along with George Houston and five other citizens. (Hennings Statutes, Vol. 13, p. 297). In 1792 he was granted an ordinary (tavern) license at this home on Mill Creek. This land and tavern were later sold to David Kyle. July 26, 1793 he purchased an additional 275 Acres and in February 1815 sold 352 acres for $18,500. October 20, 1814 he purchased 296 acres for $1,000.00 on both sides of Limestone Creek, Washington County, Tennessee near Greene County. His daughter, Susannah Snapp, married George Houston, uncle to Sam Houston. He lived in 1784 in Rockingham Co., VA.1

"In Memoriam: Mr. Abraham Snapp, of Brownsboro, Washington County, Tenn., departed this life, May 31, 1875, in 78th year of his age. He was born in Shannadore County, Va., Dec. 11, 1797 and when he was 6 hears old his parents moved to East Tenn. Mr. Snapp out-lived two wives. He married first: Miss Mary Patton, October 1826, who was a native of Augusta Co., Va., she living a little more than a year after their affiance. One child was born to this union, the late Dr. Samuel Snapp, of Russellville, Tenn. His 2nd marriage was with Miss Matilda Windle, of Lexington, Va., Nov., 1829. They lived together for more than forty years, the wife dying two years before the husband. He was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church. One son, Windle Snapp, Esq., who resides on the old homestead, is left to mourn the kindest of parents."

This cemetery was originally the cemetery for the Lexington Presbyterian Church which was first built at this location with the cemetery beside it. The oldest citizens of Lexington are buried here and this is probably where Daniel Windell is buried though no record or stone has been found.
