Valentine Windle (b. 5 November 1711) was deceased by 25 October 1792 when his will (dated 29 December 1791) was proved in Shenandoah County Court. He bequeathed his Psalm Book and 100 acres "whereon he (Valentine) now live" to his son Peter (b. 1753). He willed 100 acres to his son John (b. 1763).{180} He mentioned top page 396 five daughters but only listed two, Barbara and Mary Windle. Valentine appointed Augustine Windle and John Philip Windle to serve as executors.{181} John Windle Jr. and his wife Caty sold his 100-acre legacy and.......

Per Fredric Z. Saunders, O'Dell copied the will information from the abstracts of Shenandoah wills, and it is incorrect. The correct date of Valentine's will is 22 March 1770, in Dunmore County. The name Dunmore County was later changed to Shenandoah. It makes a big difference, in that Barbara and Mary were single in 1770 when it was written, but not in 1791 which the published abstract lists.

Johann Valentine Wendel was christened on 1 February 1710/11 in Framersheim, Palatinate. He immigrated on 17 August 1732 to Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co. (now), PA. He was naturalized on 5 May 1747 in Frederick Co., VA.¹

James H. Windle served in the Civil War as a Private in Co. D, 42nd Illinois Infantry. He was wounded at the Battle Of Franklin or at Spring Hill, Tennessee. The casualty report does not indicate which as they were on the 29th and 30th of November 1864. In the mayhem of the hand to hand fighting that was considered among the worst, the date that James was shot in the face was not known for sure. It DOES say that he was in the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 4th Army Corps.
