Note:

"This is the story of our family as I have been able to put it together. Heather Makechnie, a genealogist I met at Proctor (Academy, Andover, N.H.) at my fiftieth reunion came up with this scenario by matching birth dates and places. Benjamin Fuller came with the first settlers to Colchester, New London County, Connecticut. He was one of the first persons to die in the settlement in 1740. He and his wife, Content, had three sons, Matthew, Josiah born 1729, and Benjamin. Josiah married Irena Dickinson in Sharon Connecticut in 1749. They either moved to Dutchess County, New York or there was a boundary change. This location was called the Oblong, a disputed boundary area between the Hudson and the Connecticut rivers claimed by New York and the New England Colonies. Josiah and Irena had a son Josiah born in 1763. Josiah is listed as the head of a household in Columbia or Albany County in the 1790 census. Josiah had a son Enoch born in 1784 who joined the Western Reserve Company as a hired hand as they walked the Mohawk trail to Ohio. He came to Ashtabula in 1807. He died June 9, 1861, age 76 years in Saybrook , Ohio. He served as a private in John Reed’s company during the War of 1812, guarding military stores at the mouth of the Ashtabula River. He served long enough so his widow collected a pension. Enoch married Karen Happuch Palmer January 12, 1809. She was the daughter of the Congregational minister. She died, August, 1884, age 94. I guess she was named after one of Job’s daughters. Karen Happuch comes from the Hebrew, meaning a horn of eye paint. At that time the women of the area whether they were Hebrew, Canaanites or Egyptian liked to paint around their eyes and eyelashes to give them the sultry almond eyed look. I wonder if the reverend knew the derivation of the name? The twin honored grave stones at the grave in Ashtabula are for Enoch and Happy.

Enoch’s daughter Ruth Fuller born July 1834 married John Brainard June 1859. Enoch’s son Josiah Fuller was born Ashtabula, Ohio, October 14, 1810 and died on October 24 1895. Josiah married Mary Steward on, Dec 16, 1832 in Ashtabula. He married Caroline Steward on Oct 4, 1857 in Ashtabula. He married Catharine Nile, on Nov 27, 1866 in Mercer, Ohio. We have a gold topped cane that George Porter Fuller gave him. It is has a Masonic emblem on it and the engraving reads, "Josiah Fuller born Ashtabula, Ohio, October 14, 1810. Presented by his son George October 14, 1882." For a while, Josiah and Enoch ran a livery stable in Ashtabula. A note in the "History of the Western Reserve" says, "Josiah was a stage driver, later a liveryman and finally settled on a farm in Saybrook. He was a great Mason, went to the conclave at San Francisco and was the life of the party."
