A funeral for Mary May Dillon, 96, of Adel was held 9 Mar 1991 at Fisher Funeral Home. Mrs. Dillon died of a heart ailment on March 6 at Adel Acres Care Center. Burial was at Oakdale Cemetery at Adel.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Poffenberger, she was born in Dallas County on 9 Aug 1894. She had lived in Adel most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation at Redfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Archie, by four brothers and by five sisters.

Survivors include her son, Harold Badger of Seattle, Washington, a brother, Lee Poffenberger of Palm Harbor, Florida; and two sisters, Ruth Glenn of Waterloo and Ada Myers of Adel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Adel Acres Activity Fund.

She was buried in March 1991 in Oakdale Cemetery, Adel, Dallas Co., IA, Findagrave #9765856.

Resident of Community for Sixty Years Called Home After Illness of About a Year

Charley Poffenberger, widely known Adel man who has been a resident of this community for 60 years, passed away at his home in Adel on Sunday, 26 Nov. Death came to him as a result of a heart ailment from which he had been suffering for more than a year. It brought to a close a long life of usefulness and of straightforward endeavor.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Christian Church in Adel, with Rev. H.M. Sippel in charge. Many old friends of Mr. Poffenberger and of the family were in attendance. Musical numbers were given by Mrs. Doris Forret and Miss Dorothy Grimm, with Mrs. Miriam Caudron as accompaniest. Casket bearers were Ray Bentall, Loren Bentall, Irl Walker, Donald Wicks, Ralph Gnagey and Elmer Woods. His final resting place is in the Brethren cemetery northwest of Adel in the community where the family lived for many years.

Mr. Poffenberger, who was engaged in numerous business enterprises after moving to Adel, was born in Maryland, 14 May 1863, and at his death was 81 years, 6 months and 21 days old.

He was married to Mary Ellen Walker 2 Dec 1886, and to them thirteen children were born. Four of them have preceded the father in death. Those who are today mourning his death are Roy, of Bingham Lake, Minn.; Fred of Norwalk, Iowa; Ira, of Greenfield; Albert and Lee of Adel; Mrs. Ellen Folk of Granger; Mrs. Ruth Glenn of Des Moines; Mrs. May Dillon and Mrs. Ada Myers of Adel.

He was buried in November 1944 in the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Panther, Dallas Co., IA, Findgrave #14387913.

Services Held for Mrs. Poffenberger

Funeral services were held at the Adel Christian Church, Friday, for Mary Ellen Poffenberger, a longtime resident of Adel. She passed away on 3 Dec 1958 at the age of 90 years.

Rev. Ray Barnett officiated at the rites. Casket bearers were Kenneth Poffenberger, Richard Poffenberger, Clyde Poffenberger, Kenneth Myers, Arvid Love and Dale Wicks. Mrs. Mary Crase was organist. Mrs. Elva Wright and Mrs. Nancy Glenn assisted with the flowers.

Born Mary Ellen Walker, she was united in marriage to Charles M. Poffenberger, in December, 1886. Her husband preceded her in death on 26 Nov 1944.

She is survived by eight children; sons, Roy, Bingham Lake, Minn.; Fred, Norwalk; Ira, Greenfield; Albert of Adel and Lee of Perry. Also daughters, Mrs. Ruth Glenn, West Des Moines; Mrs. May Dillon and Mrs. Ada Myers, both of Adel. Also surviving are 36 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was buried in December 1958 in the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Panther, Dallas Co., IA, Findagrave #14387910.
