James N. De Vault
James Newton “Major” De Vault, 61, Independence, owner of the Jay and Jay Security Co., died Monday at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital.
Mr. De Vault was a private detective and owned and operated the security company in Independence for six years. He was born in Johnson City, Tenn., and had lived in this area 35 years.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Neva De Vault of the home; a son, Jack De Vault, Raytown; a daughter, Mrs. Cherie Rafter, Houston; two brothers, two sisters, and six grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Eugenia Standish, 98, of Cave City, Arkansas passed from this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in Cave City, Arkansas. Margaret was born to Justin Eugene DeVault and Margaret Ruth (Boring) DeVault on January 15, 1922 in Erwin, Tennessee.
Margaret was united in marriage to Edward Charles Standish in 1985 in Salem, Arkansas. Margaret spent her working years as a homemaker and was a member of the Viola Assembly of God Church. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and friend.
Margaret is survived by her three sons, Michael Rogers (Elsie) of St. Charles, Missouri, Paul Rogers (Lynn Lewis) of Salem, Arkansas, and Tom Rogers (Susie) of Salem, Arkansas; two daughters; Lana Clark (Roger) of Quincy, Illinois and Charlene Worsham (Bill) of Salem, Arkansas; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; sister, Sue Patton (Max) of Branson, Missouri; sister-in-law, Marcy DeVault of Greenville, Tennessee; many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband (Ed), parents, and two brothers (Jim DeVault and J.E. DeVault, Jr.).
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. Josh Pardue officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. until time of service on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Barker Funeral Home. Interment will be Saturday, August 29, 2020 in the Camp Cemetery in Camp, Arkansas. Pallbearers are the family and church family. Memorials may be made to the Solid Rock Assembly of God Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
NOTE: Margaret's sister, Alice Sue (Cline) Patton, born 16 AUG 1947,, was her mother's daughter with Walter O. Cline.

Justin E. DeVault, 71, of Tusculum, went to be with the Lord, unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Justin grew up in Johnson City, TN and Thayer, MO. He graduated from Thayer High School, class of 1963.
He had a degree in Electronics Technology and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in business from Walter’s State Community College. After several years in management, he changed careers and eventually retired from Averitt Express.
He supported his wife’s love of gardening and became quite skilled at growing vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed long walks with his dog, Gracie, traveling, and camping. His hobbies included model trains, his computer, and he was certified as a First Class radio operator and was a member of an amateur radio club.
Justin attended New Haven Church in Afton. He loved his church family and was an active member of several prayer groups.
He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marcella DeVault; 2 daughters, Linda Carrera, of Johnson City and Teresa Davis (Steven), of SC; 2 step-daughters, Rebecca Goddard (David), of Greeneville; Lorrie Villeneuve (Paul), of Johnson City; a stepson, Craig Gaby, of Greeneville; 7 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren; a half-sister, Margaret Stanish, of AR; half-brother, Billie DeVault, of SC; 2 special young ladies that he also doted on like granddaughters, Ava Park and Lexus Batts.
Justin was preceded in death by his parents, Justin and Mary Ruth DeVault; son, Justin DeVault; grandson, Paul DeVault.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 12, 2017 from 1-3pm & 5-7pm at Jeffers Funeral Service at Afton. The funeral service will follow visitation at 7pm in Jeffers Chapel at Afton, with Rev. Keith Williams officiating. The graveside service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11am at Graceland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Eggert, Jason Ricker, Paul Villeneuve, Spencer Goddard, Luke Shelton, Jimmy Seaton, and Brad McDannald. Honorary pallbearers will be friends from New Haven Church, friends of his amateur radio club, and Dr. Charles Montgomery.

Kathleen DeVault Sells Salts, 88, Gray Station, passed away after a brief illness Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Mrs. Salts was native and lifelong resident of Gray Station in Washington County.
She was a daughter of the late Clyde Archer DeVault and Zella Isenberg DeVault and was also preceded in death by her husband, Delmar R. Salts; and one brother, Clyde R. DeVault.
Mrs. Salts was a charter member of Greenvale Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed reading, flowers and gardening, but the joy of her life was spending time with her family.
Mrs. Salts leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Luanna Sells Wheelock and husband, Phil, Harmony; three sons, Russell P. Sells Sr. and wife, Dianne, Jonesborough, Danny D. Sells and wife, Katherine, Gray, and R. Shannon Salts and wife, Sandra, Gray; grandchildren, Rusty Sells and wife, Lisa, Gray, Sarah Sells Hardin and husband, Wade, Jonesborough, Rebecca Wheelock, Boones Creek, Natalie Wheelock Light and husband, Jason, Gray, Sheree Salts Frausto and husband, Usbec, Jefferson City, Selinda Salts, Gray, Forrest Salts, Gray, and Hunter Salts, Gray; great grandchildren, Makinzi Sells, Gray, Caleb Sells, Gray, Carson Sells, Gray, Kassidy Hall, Jonesborough, Nicholas Light, Gray, and Emma Light, Gray; one sister, Sally Devault Hicks, Gray; one sister-in-law, Barbara Walker Devault, Gray; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will greet guests and share memories from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City, and at other times at Mrs. Salts’ residence.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday from the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services. Reverend Lloyd Jones and Reverend Josh Lake will officiate.
Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gray Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Active pallbearers will be Rusty Sells, Wade Hardin, Forrest Salts, Hunter Salts, Jason Light, Usbec Frausto, Carson Sells and Caleb Sells. Honorary pallbearers will be the surviving members of the Sulphur Springs High School Class of 1943.
In lieu of flowers for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 318, Memphis, TN 38101.
