Russell P. Sells
KINGSPORT - Russell P. Sells, 80, Kingsport, entered peacefully into eternal rest at 12:27 a.m. Saturday (March 5, 2005) at North Side Hospital following an extended illness.
Russell was born in Kingsport and spent his childhood and youth in Gray, TN, before returning to Kingsport in 1955. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1986 after 44 years of service in the Tenite Division. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and the Korean War. Russell was a life member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW and Hammond Post #3 of the American Legion, having served with both of the color guards. He was Past Commander and Past District Commander of the American Legion. He was also a member of the 40/8 and the Cooties. He was a member and Past Master of the Kingsport Lodge #688, and a member of Sinking Creek Lodge #575, the Order of the Eastern Star Liberty Chapter 198, York Rite Bodies in Kingsport, the Shrine Jericho Temple and the Scottish Rite. Russell was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church in Gray, TN. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William E. and Pearl Keefauver Sells.
Surviving are his loving wife of more than 49 years, Opal P. Sells; sons, Rickey D. Sells and W. Emory Sells and wife, Diane, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Crystal VanHuss and husband, Richard, William E. Sells III, Brandie M. Sells, Shawna B. Sells; and one very special great-grandson, Bryce VanHuss. He is also survived by a daughter, Luanna Wheelock and husband, Phil, Harmony community; sons, R. Phillip Sells and wife, Diane, Pleasant Valley community, Danny D. Sells and wife, Katherine, Gray, TN; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Jenkins, Ruth Hale, Evelyn Ferguson and husband, John, all of Gray, TN; and two brothers, J.W. Sells, Gray, TN, and Allen Sells and wife, Betty, Milton, West Virginia.

Kingsport Citizen Dies In Appalachian Hospital After One Week's Illness

Funeral services for William Emory Sells, 38, will be conducted from the Highland church near here tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. O. L. Mankagre officiating. Burial services will be held at the Highland cemetery.
His death at the Appalachian hospital in Johnson City yesterday was attributed to pneumonia. He had been ill for one week.
He was a member of the Highland Baptist church for years and also of the Masonic lodge at Gray's Station.
His wife died two years ago. Now surviving are six chidlren: Grace, Ruth, J. W., Russel, Evelyn, and Allen, all of Gray's Station; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sells, two daughters (sic), Mollie Carroll, Fall Branch, and Mrs. Rane Hodge, of West Virginia; two brothers, Andrew of Washington, D.C., and Joe Sells of Penn.
Active pall bearers will be Lloyd Shipley, John Bickley, Ray Martin, Dewey Brown, Amos Hall, and Carl Holt.
Honorary pall bearers and flower bearers will be his fellow masonic members.
The Masonic order will have charge of services at the grave.

GRAY -- Delmar Ronald Salts, Route 2, Jonesboro, died Saturday morning at Holston Valley Community Hospital.
Born and reared in Sullivan County, he was a member of Wheeler United Methodist Church, the Gray Community Optimist Club, and East Tennessee Angus Association and was a past president of Gray Community Chest.
He was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration at Tri-City Airport.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Kathleen DeVault Salts; son Shannon Salts; step-daughter Luanna Wheelock; step-sons, Phillip Sells and Danny Sells, all of Gray; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Salts, Blountville; and brothers Don, Bountville, and Roy Salts, Kingsport.
Gray Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
