OBITUARY - The Miami News; Miami, Florida; Tuesday, November 22, 1960; Other Editions, Page 13 (Newspapers.com):
News Artist Jackson Found Dead In Car
Andrew E. (Jerry) Jackson, 50-year-old Miami News artist, was found dead today in his car in the parking lot of The News plant at 1001 NW 7th St.
An autopsy shown his death was caused by an attack of bronchial asthma.
Jackson, who had worked in The News art department since 1956, complained at work yesterday that he was not feeling well and was told to go home.
Friend Found Him
The body was found at 7 a.m. today by a fellow artist, Harry Wylie, of 3413 Banos Ct., Coral Gables, when he reported for work. Wylie said Jackson kept a pillow in the back seat of his car and sometime lay down there when he was ill.
Miami Homicide Detective Robert Gow said Jackson probably died yesterday afternoon. The body had slipped to the floor in the back seat where it was not noticed until Wylie investigated.
Jackson, who lived at 5950 SW 46th Ter., is survived by his wife Hazel and two children, Kathleen and Steven.
Here 25 Years
He came from a small town in Illinois and studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.
He came to Miami 25 years ago after having been a free lance artist in Chicago and New York.
Tom Jefferson, now a publicity man, and Jackson were partners for years in the advertising agency of Jackson and Jefferson here. Jackson later worked for other agencies and then came to The News.
Note: On Andrew's U.S. World War II Draft Cards, Young Men, 1940 - 1947, he listed his next of kin as Ida DeVault. Ida was most likely his aunt, Ida May (Tuttle) DeVault. Ida and Andrew were both living in Florida at the time.
