Biography

Martha Ellen Wright was born about 1857 in Clark Co., IN.1 She married Crawford M. Robertson, son of William H. Robertson and Elizabeth Ann Jackson, on 20 March 1877 in Floyd Co., IN. Martha Ellen Wright and Crawford M. Robertson were divorced in March 1886 in Floyd Co., IN. She married Edward Whiteman on 17 May 1888 in Clark Co., IN, four children to this marriage. She married John Murdock on 13 February 1904 in Floyd Co., IN, Ceremony by Rev. H. A. Hymes.

Note: After her divorce from Crawford, Martha Ellen married Edward Whiteman (17 May 1888 in Clark County, Indiana). Edward Whiteman had been previously married to Mary El Roades. Martha and Edward had four children of their own. After Edward died on 3 Feb 1899, Martha Ellen put the four children from her marriage to Edward into the New Albany Orphanage. A note in the orphanage records states that the four children were related to Martha' brother, Thomas Wright of Henry County, Kentucky, and that they were also related to Walter Whiteman of New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana. Orphanage records also state that the oldest child, Arthur Thomas Whiteman was a half-brother to Odus and Edgar Robertson. There is no record of her putting Odus and Edgar into the orphanage. (They may have gone back to live with their father.) Martha Ellen removed her four children from the orphanage on 30 May 1903. She married John Murdock on 13 Feb 1904 in Floyd County, Indiana.
