WATERLOO -- Juanita Bender Dukes, 93, of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 15, in Phoenix, Ariz., of natural causes.

She was born April 23, 1906, in La Porte City, daughter of Robert and Clara Triem Wagner. She married Ernest F. Bender in 1925 in Waterloo. He died in 1968. She married William Dukes in 1975 in California. He died in 1984.

Mrs. Dukes worked at Rath Packing Co., then later worked for Westview Vocational services, Huntington Beach.

Survived by: a daughter, Jacqueline Clark of Phoenix; a son, David Bender of Des Moines; and six grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Dean and Truman Wagner; a sister, Jeanette; and three infant great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with burial in the cemetery. Kearns, Jusman0Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

ERNEST F. BENDER

Ernest F. Bender, 65, a former Waterloo resident, died Thursday at Southgate (sic), Calif., of carcinoma.

He was born July 30, 1902 in Waterloo, the son of J. Henry and Mary Tegtmeir (sic) Bender. On May 1, 1926, he married Juanita Wagner here. He was employed at the Rath Packing Co. for several years in the superintendent's office. After moving to Southgate in 1958 he worked in the shopkeeper's department in the Los Angeles County office.

Surviving are his widow; one son, David of Pella; one daughter, Mrs. James Clark of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and three brothers, Karl of 207 Highland Blvd., Victor of 530 2nd St., Evansdale, and J. Henry of 2627 McClain Dr., Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister.

Friends may call at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home after noon Sunday.1
