According to property records, John Kleppinger moved with his family to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, where he settled. In this connection it will be interesting to quote a letter written in 1864 which refers to John Kleppinger's family and the Clippingers in general.

This is a letter written by George Clippinger, of Greencastle, Franklin Co. PA, (a son of Anthony) to Rev. Henry Clippinger, (son of Henry Kleppinger). It reads as follows:

June 2, 1864

"Now I will say something about friends and relatives. The number that came from Germany was one, and his name was Anthony (Note: This should be John George), and lived in Northampton County, Pa., and he had six sons and their names were Henry, George, John, Frederick, Lewis and Anthony. If they had sisters I do not know.

"Now your father was a son of John. He lived 3 miles southwest of Shippensburg in Cumberland County. Frederick, Anthony and John they moved and settled about Shippensburg, Cumberland County, and George, he moved to Westmoreland County, Pa. Lewis and Henry stayed in Northampton County. Your father had 6 brothers and 5 sisters as far as I know. They are all gone home. Mother Smith in Chambersburg was a sister. She departed this spring a year. His son Jacob was our preacher these two years. Your father had a brother, his name was John, and he had a son called Frederick, and he moved to Ohio. He is the only one living of your father and grandfather's connection that I know of except you.

"Sol Clippinger that wrote to you from Lima, Ohio is a brother of mine, and the Clippinger at Funkstown is a brother, his name was John. And some of brother Adam's children are living at Lima also. The Dr. Clippinger you speak of who used to be called Sheriff John, is I think a son of John, he lived at Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pa., and he was a son of Uncle Frederick, who lived east of Shippensburg. And this Sheriff John, he moved to the State of Indiana some years ago. He had a son, a doctor, and that Mrs. Alleson might be a daughter of his. I never heard of a Clippinger but was related.

"Your father's sisters were all married, one the second time. Two were married to two men the name of Lee, and one to Hamsher, and one to Smith, one to Stall. Henry C., a brother of mine, lived at Newburk. Uncle Frederick had 3 sons, names, Anthony, George and John, the Sheriff. Your father's brothers' names were John, George, Conrad, Anthony, Peter, Frederick, Henry."

He left a will on 31 January 1820.
