HOWARD G. CLIPPINGER

83, of Tremont City, Ohio, died Friday, July 31, 1998 at 11:25 p.m. in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on January 4, 1915, the son of Joseph G. Clippinger and Florence (Smith) Clippinger.

He retired as a machinist from the Elliott Company in 1977.

He was a 50-year member of Clark Lodge number 101 Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Shawnee Chapter 237, Springfield Council number 17 and Palestine Commandry number 33, a Past Master of the Ohio Lodge of Research, and was a recipient of the Grand Lodge Community Service Award. He was a 60-year member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving Troop 12 as an assistant Scoutmaster, was one of Explorer Post 6, and serviced on the Executive Board of Tecumseh Council. The Tarhe Lodge Order of the Arrow BSA, which he helped charter, created an Outstanding Service Award in his name. He was one of the first to be awarded the Benjamin F. Prince Award by the Clark County Historical Society. Howard was a member of the Enon and Tremont City Fire Departments, served as mayor of Tremont City, and was a member of American Legion Post 362, and was Past-President of the Association of Ohio Long Rifle Collectors. He also actively participated in his Native American Heritage.

His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Almeda Jane (DeGroot), three children and spouses, James G. and Carole Clippinger of Tremont City, Ohio, Norma “Cookie” and Larry McDonald of Springfield, Ohio, and Rena and Joseph M. Dennison of Dover, Ohio; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 2-3:30 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m. on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Masonic Temple. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Tremont City. Memorial donations may be made to Camp Birch Building Fund, Tecumseh Council BSA, 326 South Thompson Avenue, Springfield, Ohio or your favorite charity.

He was buried in August 1993 in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Tremont City, Clark Co., OH, Findagrave #102646032.
