Samuel Edward Wendell was born in May 1872 in Malden Dist., Kanawha Co. (probably), WV; headstone at George's Creek Cemetery, Malden, shows a birth year of 1869, however John and Permelia Windell were listed on 29 AUG 1870 in the census of Grant Twp., Jackson County, WV, with only their first two children, so Samuel could not have been born before that date, unless he was missed at the census. However that does not seem likely because he was listed on the 1880 census as age eight years -- consistent with the 1900 census. DLB 2014.; headstone at George's Creek Cemetery, Malden, shows a birth year of 1869, however John and Permelia Windell were listed on 29 AUG 1870 in the census of Grant Twp., Jackson County, WV, with only their first two children, so Samuel could not have been born before that date, unless he was missed at the census. However that does not seem likely because he was listed on the 1880 census as age eight years -- consistent with the 1900 census. DLB 2014.^1,2 He married Maggie Lee Brown, daughter of Samuel J.
