John Henry Windle was born about 1837 in Greenbrier Co., VA (now WV.)¹ He married Permelia Frances Hubbard, daughter of Samuel W. Hubbard and Elizabeth Patterson Gilliam, on 13 September 1858 in Greenbrier Co., VA (now WV), Ceremony by A. C. Westwood. The marriage appears to have deteriorated by the summer of 1880 when the census was taken -- Permelia is listed in Kanawha County as the head of household and her occupation was taking in laundry and ironing, while John was living with his brother in Greenbrier County. John H. Wendell later married Sarah F. Hughes on 29 JUN 1882, Summers County, WV. John Henry Windle died after 1880 in Greenbrier Co., WV.

John Henry Windle lived in June 1880 in Blue Sulphur, Greenbrier Co., WV.; living with his brother Charles Windle's family. It appears he was remarried to a Maria, age 41, as she is listed as "Sister In-Law" in the Charles Windle household, immediately following John. DLB 2014.³
