Preston Colson was born on 19 February 1847 in Shelby Co., IL. He married Rhoda M. Bennett on 18 June 1871 in Shelby Co., IL. He died on 1 December 1932 in Shelby Co., IL, Preston Colson, retired farmer and one of Windsor's oldest residents, died about 8:15 o’clock Wednesday evening at the family home. Death was due to infirmities of age. The funeral will be conducted at 11 o’clock Saturday morning from the Christian Church, with Rev. L. Z. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ash Grove Cemetery, southeast of Windsor. Mr. Colson was born Feb. 19, 1847. He spent most of his life in the Gays, Ash Grove and Windsor communities, engaging in farming most of the time. His wife, Mrs. Rhoda Bennett Colson, whom he married on June 18, 1871, died about a year ago. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Bart Sexton, who has taken care of him since Mrs. Colson's death, and a foster son, Hal Colson of Pekin. Miss Minnie Bolin and John Bolin, both of Gays, are niece and nephew. Windsor - 2 Dec 1932. He was buried in December 1932 in Cochrans Grove Cemetery, Windsor, Shelby Co., IL, Find A Grave Memorial# 58270587.

Born Dec. 28, 1915, in Pekin to Halac R. and Jesse C. Larimore Colson, he married Alberta Mae Stone on Aug. 23, 1941, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Colleen (and Ivan) Martin of East Peoria, one sister, Helen Watkins of Manito, one brother, Dean Colson of Manito, five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post 44.

PEKIN ~ Virgil Wayne Watkins, 90, 1520 El Camino Drive, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Pekin Manor. He was formerly of 402 South East Avenue in Manito.

Born October 27, 1916 in Chandlerville to Asa E. and Edith May (Ishmael) Watkins, he married Helen Louise Colson on September 21, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. She died October 7, 2001 in Hopedale. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one sister (Edith Miller), and five brothers (Harold, Delbert, Robert, Orville, and Raymond Watkins).

Surviving are one daughter, Lynda J. Dudley of Pekin; one son, Michael W. (Danielle) Watkins of Pekin; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gary L. (Martha) Watkins of Manito and Wilbert (Catherine) Watkins of Lansing.

Virgil worked for Hart-Carter Company in Peoria from 1937 to 1951 as a tool and die maker. He then worked at Mount Hawley Manufacturing in Peoria from 1951 to 1965 as plant manager. He last worked for International Harvester in Canton from 1966 until retiring in 1979 from planning and research.

A mason since 1946, he was a member of Ipava Lodge #213 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

Virgil enjoyed fishing and hunting.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Friday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where Masonic rites will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

He was buried in June 2007 in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL, Find A Grave Memorial# 20176195.

Dean served in the United States Air Force and while in the service attended aircraft engine school, where his career in electronics began.

Following his discharge from the service, Dean started Colson's TV and Repair in Pekin. He later established Colson Radio Communications in 1950. He owned and operated Colson Radio until 2000, when his grandson assumed ownership of the company. He remained with the company as CEO until 2007, when he retired.

Along with his love for electronics, Dean had a passion for music. He played multiple instruments, but loved playing the saxophone the most. He was a part of the Dean Colson Combo and later the Dean Colson Trio. His music groups played special events throughout central Illinois for many years.

He was buried in June 2011, Cremation, Find A Grave Memorial# 71541968.

Born Oct. 30, 1931, in Pekin to Robert Lee and Wilma Ada (Bright) Hawkins, she married Clarence Dean Colson on Feb. 3, 1950, in Pekin. He died June 6, 2011, in Pekin.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ronald J. Colson and Robert Dean Colson Sr.; and two brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Janet (Don) Walker of West Chicago; one grandson, Robert Dean (Kimberly) Colson Jr.; six granddaughters, Amber Colson, Annissa Stiles, Carrie Hammock, Rhonda Colson, Donna Walker and Katie Walker; 12 greatgrandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and one sister, Wilma M. Donna worked as a longtime office worker at Illini Welding in Pekin. She also helped and supported her husband, Dean, with his electronics business, Colson's TV and Repair in Pekin. The company later transitioned into Colson Radio Communications and Colson Radio until 2000, when her grandson assumed ownership of the company.

She enjoyed playing the organ and played with her husband in the Dean Colson Combo.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.

She also was a member of the Pekin Boat Club for many years.

Cremation will be accorded.
