Sometime between the years of 1835 and 1840 his parents, Mary and Samuel, moved from Hampshire County Virginia (which became West Virginia at the outbreak of the Civil War) to Portage County Ohio. In 1850 they moved to Licking County, Ohio. In 1855 they moved by covered wagon to Tazewell County, Circleville, Illinois. Circleville no longer exists. It was in the Northeast corner of Sand Prairie Township near South Pekin.
After Caroline's death Andrew went to live with his sister, Mary, on Linden Street in Delavan.
